Me and a bud drew the combo this year, first time for both of us in montana.I got a few buds that have hunted there before, one goes to alder another in st regis and the other goes to darby. The only one that drew though is the one that hunts alder, he says the deer is good there and the elk is 50/50 depending on the weather.I have never hunted with the guy before so not sure if he's full of s**t or not.He is just a work buddy.Any info appreciated.

Alder is like most of Montana. It pays to hunt private property. If you shoot or even see a 300" bull consider yourself lucky. There will be nice bulls coming out of the area but it's tough to find anything big and it helps to hunt private land. Good luck.

we're not real concerned about gettin big elk just want to fill some tags.I would like to get a nice buck though but my buddy don't care he has had a couple of bad seasons and just wants an animal. Is there much public land around the area.My friend said he could hook us up with some private land but I don't know how big of piece it is.I guess we'll see when we get there.
