Same guy who bought it last year for $390,000 $800,000 total. And yes Doyle has contacted him. He was sitting with him when he bid.

If the hunter was smart he would have contacted Doyle himself already... just saying..

should he have contacted you instead elk? just saying lol. do you even know where the island is?

haha....

He not only dropped 380K on the AI tag but also another 320K for the Arizona state wide tag last year as well. $1.110 Million dollars.... and this is a 24 year old hunting guide in Canada? I am assuming hunting is just a hobby.

He also bought the AZ tag last year for $320K. He is 24 year old hunting guide in Canada. Not sure how that works.

Sounds like I should have been a hunting guide in Canada if they can drop a mill for their own personal mule deer opportunities!

I hear the purchase was for a "client" that may be involved in baseball. Not sure how reliable this is, but it is the word on the street.

Anyone know why they eliminated the raffle tag for AI? I figured this would happen soon enough, just did not think they would do it that quickly. How long have the AI tags been around now 5 years or so?

Marburg, what "raffle" tag are you talking about.

If you are talking about the draw tag that is put through the draw system with the rest of the tags (Henrys, Bookcliffs ect.) it is still there in the guide book.

And yes I believe this will be the 6th year they have had a hunt on the island.

The guy at the auction the bought the tag, is the front man for the hunter, who is happy to stay out of the public eye.

Super! Damn near 1/2 a million for a deer. What does he need Doyle for? Before stomping me into the ground, I'm really just asking.

I thought that may have been the case but then I read an article on KSL that mentioned the buck he killed with the tag purchased last year. could be incorrect, of course.

"British Columbia hunter, Troy Lorenz, made the winning bid Friday night to set the new world record for the highest paid mule deer permit. Lorenz had also won the bid for the Antelope Island mule deer permit in 2015 and harvested a 231 inch buck deer."

He probably needs Doyle to find the best buck on the island. Rarely does the biggest buck on the island stand at the gate with a sign that says, "I'm the biggest buck on this island". ha ha
Seriously, the rich dude who bought the tag probably spends his time making money, not scouting for deer, so he'll hire Doyle to do the deer part. Probably easier to out-source the scouting than whatever he does to make bank. Wish he'd call me. I'd be thrilled to scout for him.

$410k for a deer tag! Crazy! But if I had $410k laying around I'd buy it. Killing one of those huge bucks out there might not be super tough with a rifle, but could be quite the challenge with a bow or maybe even muzzleloader. Especially if you had only one buck you were hunting for.

I'd rather see both island tags in the drawing, but I know the reason behind having the auction tag. Understandable I suppose.

So... if these wealthy men need to have all the work done for them, why not re-write the rules to just make it so the guide can shoot the animal too. And just mail the head back to the client. The donation is great but really calling these guys hunters is a stretch, in my opinion.
And if I had 1/2 million to drop on "wildlife conservation" I doubt I would give a rats hinny about possessing the biggest deer on the island. That would be the last of my worries. Like maybe the same money could be spent on starting a wounded warriors program that puts all donated monies back into the program.Just saying!Go ahead and flame away! And for the record, I'm of an age where possessing a big dead deer just is not much of a priority. But experiencing the hunt is very important. So buy a great tag and go "hunting" for hell sakes!

He wants to stay out of the public eye by giving the highest paid amount for a deer tag ever then hires the guy that would put his tramp stamp on his own $hit whipe if he thought someone would bye it really give me a break

Ya, I read that too. They even showed a pic of the personal guide with the deer, but he wasn't the hunter

Hornkiller
What can you tell me about the actual hunter? Name, where he lives, what he does. You don't have a clue who to bag on, so Doyle is your target. Thats by design, and what he gets paid for. You all know who Denny is and bag on him for his lack of independence while hunting, but you'll never see this guy on Doyles video or pics. Why do you need to be given a break? I'm sure you can understand what I just explained

They would if there was a book that ranked the best tax returns.

Here's my experience with "The book." You pay money to have them measure your animal, pay money to put it in the book and then buy the book. It's a heck of a idea! It's kind of like buying a Nike shirt. Pay money to advertise their product. It's a terrific marketing tool.

One way or the other, it seems that some here think it's all about putting it in the book. So, I'd be willing to bet that only a couple or so bucks killed on AI have made the "all time" record book. Yellum, how about it?

Yelum you really dont think Doyle is going to get on his knees and beg to dude to film it so he can make money off it?
hornkiller.jpg

Doyle's Job, like your job, is to make money. I'm sure he tries to film all his hunts, including this one. But I'd bet Doyle's income from videos is very small compared to his guiding fee's. I watched his video, but it didn't show the hunter, just the kill shot, which IMO, confirms my comments about the hunters low profile.
