Any suggestions on what to do with 14 Resident points? I would like to burn them this year. Not looking for an huge buck necessarily, but would like to see many 180 or better if that's realistic.

there isn't any unit that you realistically can see many 180 class bucks or bigger on public during an open season. Maybe private.

unit 44 would be a unit you should consider.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-04-16 AT 04:12PM (MST)[p]Based on last year it looks like I can easily draw unit 44 for 3rd rifle, but not the late 4th rifle season.

I'm also looking at the NW corner. Units 2 or 201 since they have less hunting pressure (no OTC elk hunters).

On the other hand some say there's more chance of seeing a huge buck in 44.

002 3rd rifle: 14 pts last year. large unit. little hunting pressure.

201 3rd rifle: 13 pts last year. Smallish unit. little hunting pressure. Same terrain as 002?

44 3rd rifle: 11 pts last year. Pretty crowded. Bigger bucks??

Before you put in, double check with the CPW in the area you want to apply for, to discuss Winter mortality. Always smart to double check instead of finding out in June that a area was hit harder than normal..Good luck.

If you haven't already due a forum search on 201,2,10. Yer decision will be a simple one. Good luck!

Lonewati, I'll be checking in the morning.

DW, From what I've read 201, 2, & 10 are amazing for Elk, but the reviews are mixed for Deer. Did I miss something? :D
