Pavant Mule Deer???

I learned to deer hunt in the Pavant unit over 30 years ago. I left Utah over 21 years ago and really haven't paid much attention to the hunting down there since. Well other than to notice some monster elk have come out of the state including the Pavant unit. Anyway, my oldest son now lives in Utah and after 3 years drew his first Utah deer tag. He drew for the Pavant unit. What is the latest status of the deer down there? Is it any good anymore? I guess in short is it any better or worse than it was 21 years ago when I last hunted it? I know the elk are doing fine there, but have the deer survived very well at all?

I harvested a good buck (29" 5x5) last year on the muzzy hunt but I got lucky doing so. Personally, I'd not apply for that unit in the near future again, pretty disappointed in low deer numbers and overall quality.

I stopped hunting there in 2011 due to lack of deer and tons of pressure... Send me a pm if you'd like more info and I can tell you where I use to hunt with success...

Thanks for the replies. It sure doesn't sound like much has changed in the last 21 years. It wasn't that good when I left but I still managed to usually find something to shoot. Hopefully my son will have some success.

I have hunted there since the 1960's. It has just gotten worse every years except the brief interval when it was 3 point or better. It improved then, but the first year it went back to any buck, it was back to square one. Every year we think it has bottomed out, but we are amazed to find the next year to be even worse. It is not a good deer area anymore, period.
