I have been lurking around here for some time now. I thought I would try posting some pictures and videos. I was so excited when I first saw this deer from afar. I went back in last week and found him again and turns out he has no brow tines. I want to break the magic 200 this year and I don't think he can. So he wont get pestered by me this fall.

Nice!

Where you from Porkchop?

nice buck......MM is great place to break the magical 200 mark.....unless you live in reality.

Judas. That's a great deer. I'm not so sure what's so great about the "magical" 200" mark. The more I hunt the less I care about what other people think of the animals I harvest....and vice versa.

Besides, what about the lack of eye guards makes him any dumber of a deer to hunt or you less of a hunter for killing him?

If it's region H in Wyoming let me know where he is and I'll make sure he's loved by an Accubond regardless of G1's or "only" being 194". I'll even cuddle him afterward to ease the stimga if he's still worried about it. ?

Good luck on your hunt this year whatever you decide.

Hard to tell from those pics but that deer is very impressive and I wouldn't let score deter you from that deer

Elk assassin I live in WY and hunt up and down the Greys River so yes, region H.

I know 200 is just a number but it's a goal. Shooting a big deer is not for anybody else just me. I love looking at big deer if I don't reach my goal at least I tried, and got to spend the whole season in the mountains.

It's easy to talk tough before the season... Let's hope I don't breakdown and shoot the first branched horn that walks by.

I'm a sucker for a MuleDeer with eye guards but I have to say I would take that Deer in a Heart beat. Those are some incredible Forks Deep and long.

I don't think I could let him walk if I had a tag and the season was open.
I would want to put him down and just see how close my score was to the real deal. He might fool ya and be a 200"er

He looks eerily similar to a buck I've watched for 2 trips in the greys region. I doubt we're in the same spot, but if so, I'll stick him with an arrow for ya! Haha.

Good for you Porkchop. If you think he's only going to stretch the tape to 198" and that's not good enough, then let him walk.

Of course, there's a good chance someone else kills him and he doesn't survive to be hunted by you next year. Or he dies in the winter. Or a Cougar gets him. Or any number of other things could happen and you'll always wonder what happened to him... :)

But, if you would be disappointed to stretch a tape on him and find he is short of the 200" mark, then I would say you should let him go.

I personally can't imagine what your walls must look like to not be intrigued by a 198" typical... :) I'd love to be at that point some day. Maybe... :)

I'm from louisiana with a region h tag and he looks like he would go with some rice and gravy to me. i might even put them horns on a plaque

Im gonna put this as nice as I can but anybody that would pass up that buck because he might only score 198" instead of 200" has a major ego problem and is basically a stupid idiot. That wasnt very nice but I'm just speaking the truth.

I am proud of you Porkchop!!! Except there is only about 4 Bucks better than him up there. And he may still be the king of the Mountain. I think he is so big all the way around he might go 202 without G1's. I said might. I passed one up.(A Monster) a few years ago. I had Watched & Dreamed of & Hunted him for 2 years finally had him at 200 yds. Just put my gun down. I still don't know why I didn't shoot. But I'm glad I didn't. No regrets. Yes the season was open. Thanks for the pics.

I was in the Greys for the first time ever last weekend doing some scouting. I found a buck VERY similar to that one. In fact I thought for sure that was him. Glad to hear that it's not the same buck since he is #1 on my hit list.
Porkchop - stick to you goals. Everyone has their own individual goal and don't let others tell you what yours should be. If he isn't what you want then you won't be happy with him.

That buck looks to be as big as the buck that's says it will possibly be the new Nevada record typical, if it didn't have eye guards it will still crack 200 easy so yours probably will too!

REALLY!! Thats your answer calling a fellow hunter names for not shooting a deer cause it isnt right for him.. Classy

I have a hard time seeing that buck being as big as the Cheeny buck from Nevada. Need a better look.... but that is a great buck, and I would have a hard time passing on him any time any where.

Good for you, Porkchop! I have been told over and over again, "you'll never shoot a big deer if you shoot a small one!"

Having said that, I'd shoot him in a heartbeat...but I've killed a bunch of small ones.

Don't let the MM peckerheads get you down porky... the trophy is the memories not the head. Few years back I had a good tag and passed on a couple "named bucks" Both went 185 (measured sheds not guessed #'s) shot an ancient 160 buck with no teeth on the last evening, every time I look at him I remember them too, you can't buy that ##### for $...

Sweet buck! No biggie if you don't want to kill him. It's your tag, let walk any buck you choose!

That's a dandy buck for sure. I think he is close to 200. But I respect anyone's wishes to pass on a deer that size.
Good luck to you all this season!

I agree. Also, you will never ever kill a 200" buck in your lifetime if you kill a 190" or smaller buck every year.

There's always next year

The interesting thing about setting goals is, if you accomplish them too quickly, your motivation may head South. While I never set a goal for a 200" buck I always thought that getting a buck in the "book" would be quite an accomplishment. In my "twilight" hunting years I was fortunate, not only to reach my dream, but surpass it with a 200" typical that netted 195, breezing him easily into the "book".

So now what??? It's like reaching that accomplishment threw water on my desire to hunt big muleys. Don't get me wrong...I still go and the sight of a big buck does thrill me. But as far as me chasing them, I would rather see someone else have that pleasure.

At any rate, best of luck with your dream Porker! Just don't accomplish it too fast!

I'm with Little bighorn. A few years ago I set a goal I wanted to kill 30" buck, 180 and a 200" buck. In two years I accomplished my goals and now I don't care as much. I still like to hunt but I feel I've done all I need. I still try to kill big but it's not the same.
