Remember, this buck was arrowed in velvet and was 'green' scored prior to the proper drying period......which doesn't really mean anything when throwing out numbers. Once it was stripped and dried properly, at room temperature, for 60 days, it was officially measured.....and for the record, there really is no 'more strict' on where to start measurements.....only the CORRECT location to begin.
Based on the initial official measurement, it was large enough to merit a special panel this past weekend (at the Pope and Young Convention in St. Louis) for verification, as it surpassed the current world record typical mule deer for the Pope and Young Club. (You can watch the video on the Pope and Young Club's Facebook account) I was on that panel, as well as Richard Hale (B&C Records Chairman) and Ken Witt (P&Y Records committee member). It was administered/oversaw by the P&Y Records Chairman, Ed Fanchin. At the end of the special panel.......the buck ended up at an amazing 205 6/8". No less and no more.....it is what it is.......a GIANT buck that deserves recognition. It was a pleasure to measure this buck and verify the final score.. Big time congratulations to the hunter!
