Nebo says it is very obvious

LAST EDITED ON Aug-18-16 AT 09:20AM (MST)[p]Hello,

I got a message from Nebo informing me that it is very obvious where I was taking video of some bucks. I can't figure out how it would be so obvious where they are at? If you showed me a video of a buck in the hills, unless they are standing next to some very significant landmarks, I can't figure out a way that a person could tell you exactly where you are at? He won't reply to my messages now and I am just wondering if possibly he is able to track the location through the video somehow? Not looking to cause any arguments I do appreciate him informing me of this but I just want to know for future reference if I should refrain from posting pics/video because someone can somehow track down where I hunt at?

Turn off locations and GPS on yer phone. It's possible if you can extract the meta data. It's easy from what I hear.

I think it's possible to tell in some cases especially if there is a unique animal in there.
However I have heard u can track where a video was shot at etc so I don't know.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-18-16 AT 11:11AM (MST)[p]You can do it with google earth but I highly doubt if he knows it is because of the video. Maybe he has been there or maybe he is full of BS.

You would have to have a significant landmark and he would have to know the general area to look for that land mark. I wouldn't worry about it, just because someone knows an area where you are doesn't mean they will go there or have any clue the patterns of the deer.

There are dozens of people who hunt the same areas as I do and we seldom are hunting the same animals. There will always be the chance for others to find you, video, pictures, tracks and trails. Leaving you truck parked at an entry area. I would not worry about it and enjoy your hunt. I enjoy looking at pictures and video and others do also, kind of a ##### move IMO to jump on and tell someone you know exactly where they are at anyways. If he intended on hunting it he wouldn't have told you and even if he knows doesn't mean anyone else will.

If you are referring to the ND video's you posted there is no way unless someone has been to that exact area that he would be able to find out from the video. There is no gps data by the time you rewrite the file and format it for the upload anyway.

He seemed sincere in his telling me about it I just couldn't figure out how a person could so easily tell me exactly where I am at. So I figured I would ask and see what I am missing.

And 1 more thing, when somebody sends you a pm its usually for a reason, and that reason is usually the p in pm. Just sayin.

I do understand that and now that I posted it I am wishing I didn't include his name. I truly wasn't trying to start anything I just wanted to know if there was something I am missing.

Not sure why you run my name in the mud? I sent you a PM and just told you that I also know where those bucks are and so does a guy I know. The location I know from the location of the pictures. People here (local people) have a hard time with the avertiziing of deer. You have to do what you have to do. Good luck and wish you well. One more thing I don't have a PM so I can't answer your PM. Lol

Yeah sorry about that sir. Not my intention. I tried to send two PMs to get an answer. after I posted it I wished I hadn't put any names but just asked the question. It would have gotten the same result that I was looking for which was if someone can track my location through the video somehow. No hard feelings at all and I can completely respect the fact that a person wouldn't want all their deer advertised.

"Their deer" LOL yep when a good buck is found hey all claim they was the first ones so they get to claim "their deer" Some get to claim their mountain, My field, my Valley, ETC

How can you see the location of the pictures? Sorry I don't have much experience with forums I just do not know how a person can see location from the pictures.

It sounded to me like he knows the location because he live/hunts around the area and recognized the place from your picture. I personally don't see anything wrong with you posting them, you are not advertising the deer, you didn't even post what state they were in. I assume by your name they came from ND? If you posted some bucks from NE Oregon I may know were you are too by a picture, but without a landmark I would be hard pressed to find it.

I wouldn't stress out about it and just let this thread die:)

It's not possible to pull location from metadata generally from something on youtube. It'd be scrubbed/changed at that point. You'd have to recognize the surroundings or animals themselves. I'm sure that is what he meant, not that you can pull that from the files somehow. On top of that, you'd need to have geotagging enabled on your device. Many devices aren't capable of that today.

People need to remember a few things.
Just because you or anyone knows where a "nice or big" deer is, does not mean that they will ever be able to harvest it.
Finding a deer is one thing. Killing it is a completely different other thing. Both are not easy. Sure it gives you an advantage, but the critters still walking.

I am very skeptical about sharing any video or pictures for the public to see. I don't believe I've ever shared photos on this website for multiple reasons. Your situation being one of them.
Not that I would suggest others not to. To each their own.

Always remember that a critter found on public grounds is fair game for anyone with a tag for that area. I would suggest being careful in the future about the critters you share. Cropping pictures should be something you get familiar with. Editing film also.

You could hold out on sharing pictures or video until you fill your tag.
Good luck this year.

Exactly!!! I know 4 wardens that visit this site very regularly. One of them post a lot here the other not so much.

All of this. We have some good pictures of deer from earlier, but I will not be posting the 'one that got away' photos until we are off the mountain.

I don't understand the "what will he score" obsession either. Find the biggest deer in your unit and kill him. You will have a long time to measure his horns on the wall.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-25-16 AT 12:25PM (MST)[p]I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. You had no malicious intent. Sounds like the local yokels think they own the deer. I'm guessing southernutucky? Those is my deer's, so don't go posten theme on that interwebs thinger.
