Watched these two boys at 90 yards for an hour. Took this picture with my iPhone held up to my binoculars. Would really like everyone's input on scores and age.

I would guess the back one is 4 and front one may be 4 1/2 because he sure looks like he has more mass. Neither one has very strong forks all the way around, and bottom one has a short stubby main beam. Either way, will be really nice deer to have breeding does for another couple years.

Both are great bucks man. Good scouting trip I'd say.

They're most likely the same age... Maybe even brothers..??

Any picture with 340" of bone in it is pretty sweet man..!! I'd say they are both around the 170"" mark. Give or take a few inches. I'm not sure what you could expect where you are hunting, but seems these guys would fit the bill in most areas that are not Limited Entry in some way...

Good luck..!!

Awesome pic! The buck in front has such a nice shape to his antlers.

Deer are always born in the spring so by hunting season they will all be X and a half years old. I'm no expert on aging deer, but in my opinion they are around 5-1/2 to 6-1/2. It's possible for a deer with great genetics and nutrition to reach that size at 4-1/2. Based on the good mass they carry out into the forks I think they're older.

Great pic and nice bucks. Both are at least 4 years old. That's likely all you'd know unless you do an annular ring aging on them.

You are right, good herd sires. I hope you stack up one of them.

Best of luck

I know the area you hunt well. I think that is pretty close to as good as you can do in that area. I scouted southeast of you this weekend and didn't find anything close to what you did, great job. With a good antelope found and these two bucks you should have a great season, archery opens Thursday. The sunflowers are really doing well in the blowouts this year the moisture has really helped.

Cornhusker, were you hunting antelope on the forest? If so where r u from because I may have talked to u while I was on a horse. Or that was someone else

Fine pair to draw to, Hope you get one of them. I would be happy with either of them.

Two great bucks, hope you get one!

As far as age, it is impossible to even come close to guessing from that pic. antlers cannot be used to judge age. Need to be able to see the head (side profile) and a broadside view of entire body. By comparing the front quarters to hindquarters you can get a good guesstimate on age.

Small body and quarters are equal -young deer, 3 1/2 or under.
decent size body and he has the "bull dog" look, large front quarters and small (comparatively) hind quarters then he is 4 1/2-5 1/2.

Hind quarters equal the front quarters, he is mature 6 1/2 and older.

Start getting the swelled roman nose on a buck and you are looking on one that is pushing 10 or over.

Granted this is all just guesstimating cause just like people deer vary in development but it will get you close and started...
good luck.

Nebtex, I was a couple or ranches south of the forest. I usually don't hunt the public except a few years ago for an archery antelope I wanted to arrow but never did. Take the Dunning road 35 miles south and you run into my house. Those are really good bucks for that area, a ranch south of the forest used to have quality bucks like that I'd see on the alfalfa pivots but not in the last couple years. Good luck on your bucks.

This is kind of a Homer Reply:
