My wife, who is brand new to hunting, did well on her first deer hunt yesterday morning. I had scouted an area that I have hunted my whole life, all summer. I was fairly confident she wouldn't have a hard time filling her tag. Friday night I went to check things out, only to discover 5 rigs already at the parking spot. I knew there would be a lot more people headed there the next morning, and not wanting to deal with that mess I decided to go try a new spot that I had always wondered about. It paid off! We got in there plenty early and waited for it to get light. As soon as it was light enough to glass, I found a group of deer feeding. I found a bigger bodied buck and had her get ready for a shot. I couldn't tell how good he was, I could just tell his frame looked decent and since this was her first tag ever, any buck was big enough. I ranged him at 500 yards, dialed the scope and told her to take her time and squeeze the trigger. She hit him perfect. But had her give one more follow up just to be sure. when we finally hiked up to him, we were both surprised to see how big he actually was. The buck that I thought was "decent" turned out to be a huge 3x6 with heavy horns and 2 cool cheaters. It was definitely one of my hunting highlights! She has a muzzy spike elk tag next week. Hopefully her luck can continue!

Shouldn't have any problem getting a hunting pass in the future. As long as you take your wife. Congrats on a great deer?
