I'll give you this, its a different kind of hunt. Niether of us know if its the easiest in the country, but a great buck is a sure thing. So far, each of the 10 hunts have lasted 1 day. Each hunter has killed the buck they wanted. This year, niether hunter will kill a 6 point, and its doubtful you'll see the pavement in the distance. OF the 10 hunts, only two have been killed on the East side. One was kill right on the top. 7 were killed on the West side.
Exclusive? Sure, there are only two hunters, one at a time. Both are exclusive with no compitition. Does one have a head start? Yes, but has that mattered? 1st year, the auction guy killed a 39 inch 239 buck, the state hunter had to settled for a 37 inch 245 buck. Do you fill bad for him.
The 2nd year, the Auction guy killed a 36 inch 270 buck, the state hunter killed a 33 inch 255 buck. Without Doyles help, that hunter would have most likely killed 30 Inch 190 class buck. Thats the best buck they saw on their own. They were not prepared for that hunt, what so ever.
Only the 3rd year of the hunt, was the auction hunters buck significantly bigger than the state hunters. And most on here liked the state hunters buck better
The 4th year, Denny got his 40 incher, and the state hunter, a lady, killed the biggest deer on the island thanks to Doyle. Without him, she most likely would have killed the 1st descent buck they saw.
Last year, both bucks were about 231 inches, both mid 30's.
There have been 5 state hunters kill deer out there. Same island, same tame deer, same exclusive easy hunt. But in 5 years, you have yet to critisize, or make fun of the state hunter. That would make most believe that your issue isn't with the hunt itself, just the guy that guides the 1st hunter.

The island hunt isn't my cup of tea but I'm surely not the anti hunter about AI that you are. The resource can and should be used by hunters rather than "protecting" it for your personal petting zoo just because you live close by. The more we "protect" at all cost, the more we lose.

I dont hit the state hunter, because this hunt was neber about some average dude, it was The Dons pet project. What differenve dors the side make, the roads on wedt side get opened. Im sure youve seen that monster antelope buck out there. If this was about opening hunting, therr would nr an sntelope hunt, or chukar, or coyote. Its a hunt by $fw, for $fw, used to add more drawing power to their expo.

Thats for sure Hoss, and I agree with you that it was SFW's way to get wealthy guys hunting it. But you make fun of how easy a hunt those wealthy guys have, when the state guys have the same easy hunt. Everyone here has heard your hatred for sfw for years. Its the same old story with no new relevenant info. Take it to the govenor/dwr/representative/congressman. Maybe if they hear from you over and over, you can make a change. Change aint happening here.

Also, please don't lump everything into one basket please. There are great SFW folks who want a linching over the gov sheep deal and while it might have been a back-door deal it was far from a back room deal.

I have always seperated the "boots on the ground" from the leadership. I even posted a thanks to $fw for their pheasants. I don't oppose hunting the island. I oppose $fw profiting from it. I oppose their bs reason for the hunt. I oppose the state guy getting second shot. Their was zero reason for this hunt, the island is profitable without it, the "habitat" burns every summer. This hunt came about because Karl Malone offered money to hunt it, and The Don backroomed that into what it is today. So be it. But he knew he couldnt come out and say I have a list of rich dudes who want to shoot big deer, within an hour of the airport, so he spun the whole island going broke, need for habitat bs. $fw wanted this as another drawing card at their expo to suck in the "whales". This one, to me, was the death of the old $fw, the prop 5 champs, the rough winter in 94 feeding deer heros, the the entrance of the modern, anything for the money version that backdoors everything. The 5 day head start, which The Don set up, shows who he was more concerned with, the "average joe", or "richy rich". So, every chance get I take a shot at him, and because the membership of $fw keeps promising a new direction, with new leaders, yet The Don, Benson(yeah I know BGF is "different"), Bateman, etc, have yet to be replaced in actuality, they get collateral damamge. Like it or not, The Don, is still the head of $fw, and until YOU GUYS, cut off that head, no ammount of good work behind the scenes replaces his "grandstanding"
So yeah, we probably agree 99% of the time. And I really don't care if we hunt these deer. But I am very much opposed to the corruption in dwr slc, and I know who the biggest corruptor is.

The East side is by far the easiest place to see them. There's a couple great deer at the Ranch. One has a couple droppers and other extras that make him very, very cool (but he's not a 200" giant.
You'll find a spot or two where there are Rushes and Russian Olive Trees close to the road where there are likely going to be bucks chasing does this week and next... There's a giant framed 3x4 with some cool extras in one of those spots that is hard not to look in awe at...
There's several bucks from the summer/early fall that I haven't seen at all lately. Maybe they move over to that Southwest portion of the Island. I'd sure have liked to see "Beauty and The Beast" again... I wonder if one of them will be killed..??

Actually answered you. Take the main road, to the ranch. About 1/2 way, bowl on west side with a ditch about 2/3 up, glass it, hour before dark. Last time i was there, me, doyle, few others watched 6 point
