My 2016 Paunsaugunt hunt was a dream Mule Deer hunt come true for me. It started out the moment I saw my odds of finally drawing a tag after 17 years of applying. The help with information started pouring in upon my requests for information. I received GPS cord's, basic information about places, water holes, roads and what I could expect from so many people that it was almost overwhelming trying to compile it all. It was a fantastic opportunity to harvest a buck of a lifetime, and although I didn't take a giant, I got to enjoy and share my hunt with family & friends who helped me not only spot bucks but also to keep me mentally focused when I started struggling. Thank you to everyone (too many to name them all) who offered information and a special thanks to my soon to be wife Anna, my son Austin and his wife Rennin for putting up with me and keeping me focused. Also a huge thank you to utfireman (Ray)stinkystomper (Tony) and the famous elkassassin (Bessy) for being there to offer your help as friends and comrad's, I love you guy's!!

Wow. Slam congrats. We actually met on Thursday before the season opened. I needed water for my radiator resiivoir. We were putting a few bottles of drinking water into. Thank you for your offer of water.

There was a big buck a couple miles north of you that after pursuing it went into some private. He had extras and definately over 200. Way to go.

Nice job men!!! I Like the hook on that buck. Slammy does Bessy speak in all caps as well??? ;)))

Yes YBO, I remember you well!
We were camped just up that road where you were stopped to fill your radiator. I did plan on hunting that area just north of where I was camped but it got pounded hard every day and it wasn't big enough for all of us. Lol
I had a great hunt and saw several "nice bucks", including a better one I chose to pass on opening day. I met so many great people on that hunt and had great experiences chatting with guides and spotters from Mossback, Wade Lemon Hunting, North Rim Outfitters and Muley Crazy. Everyone we ran into was very kind, respective and willing to help.

That Bess is one class act, that's three times he has just shown up unexpected and ready to rock and roll.
And no, he doesn't "yell" in person, he's as quiet and humble as anyone I have ever known ;-)

That buck is really cool with that hook cheater.
It would be a hard one to pass.
Congrats.

I bet he showed up in his Bobcatdress looking like a bobcatmess with Dew stains all over it. :) Indeed a good cat. Met him at the expo 5-6 years ago. Glad you boys and lady had a blast.

That's an awesome deer! Is it the same one you were looking at opening morning? Thanks for the friendliness of you and your party. It was great speaking to you guys.

Congrats Doug. That is a great looking buck. I would rather have great memories with family and friends than to harvest a monster by myself and let's be honest, that is an awesome buck.

COngrats on a great hunt and buck! looks like a 17 year buck to me :)

Thank you Zach, it was awesome meeting you guy's as well and congratulations on your bucks, both studs for sure!
To answer your question, no that was a different buck than opening morning. The one I passed had deeper forks but a shorter straight cheater. I also passed on a super deep and heavy but compact buck a few days later. I am happy with my buck, but i'm not going to lie, I "hoped" for better.
My hunt was absolutely perfect other than that, fantastic weather, great friends, met many new people and my incredible wife kept us fattened up with gourmet meals every day. My son was with me from the start and it can't get better than that.

I have failed to mention that on day #2, as I had driven 20 miles and had gotten my ATV unloaded and ready for the dark travel before the sun came up, I grabbed my rifle by the scope from the back seat of my truck and it came right off my rifle! Somehow the base mount had came loose the day before, I almost vomited!!
Luckily, later that morning in Kanab as I was looking for a place in town (on Sunday) that sold Torx head screwdrivers, I ran into Doyle Moss. He had the tools I needed and took his time to mount my Nightforce back on my 338 Lapua rifle in a parking lot on the tailgate of his truck and sent me on my way. I spent the rest of that day resighting in that rifle out to 1000 yards.....thank God Stinkystomper was there for that part as he knows that caliber better than he knows his family heritage!

The Monster Muley hunt team ! You did great on a awesome buck. I love the stick off the side. Finding Doyle sure was lucky and old Bessy and stinky I am sure where great help.

PUNK is Spot on when He Mentions 'FUN'!

As Much As I wanted to be down on the PAUNS with PUNK Huntin I just didn't see it happening!

My General PISSCUTTER Hunt is always the exact same time as LE Hunts here in Utah & it makes it tough to be with/Help Friends in other Units!

But Things worked out & I Headed South mid-Season in Hopes PUNK wasn't Headed North/Home at the same time,With No Cell Service I decided to Chance it!

After Arriving at PUNKS Camp We Tried Cheering PUNK Up a little for the Next Days Hunt!

PUNK Made a Battle Attack for the Next Days Hunt & I Knew Something was gonna Happen!

Now I Don't know if I Should Mention this Part?

But PUNKS New Cannon is Good for 1087 Yard Shots!:D

Nice Job there PUNK,Things were Intense there for a few Minutes!

Ya,We Always have FUN!

Nice Meeting PUNK Jr & His Wife!

Nice Meeting Anna & A Special Thanks To You Gals For Keeping Me Fattened Up with the Excellent Food!:D

And to hornkiller's # 5 Post:Cabelas Alaskan Guide Binos,Ya I Own SWARO'S too!

To Livetahunt's # 6 Post:Anna Fixed us some Damn Good Food While I was there,Beat what was in My YETI by a Long Shot!(That's All Muscle there My Friend!:D:D:D)

To cboz's # 15 Post:When that Buck Hit the Sand I Think it Was PUNK Using the CAPS!:D

Just So You All Know!

We Left 'NO TRACE' when We Left that Place of Kill!

I Was in on 4 Decent Buck Hunts in 8 Days & Got Back with only one day Left of Season & was gonna go to the Book Cliffs & Spend the Last Day with Browtine & His Son but they had already Got it Done a few Days Earlier!

It Was Long!

It was Short!

It was Fun!

2 thunbs up Mr Slam!
Ya dun good.
Great fun, great friends, great hunt and a great buck!
What's not to love about that?
Zeke

Congrats Doug,

You've got more will power than me. I see that buck day one and hunts over. Way to go!

Nice job!
Looks like you had a great time. Those LE hunts can be a pressure cooker. You wait so long to draw that stress can take over.
Glad you had a great time, and nice buck.

Great buck Slam. That hunt exemplifies what MM is all about. Friends helping friends build great memories. Glad you had fun and I'm really happy to know so many people helped you along the way.

Congrats on a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Nice deal, You had the "A" team there with ya.
I like his looks.

Believe it or not but when i picked him up from the butcher, they gave me 167 lbs of burger and said it was the biggest bodied deer they had seen this year! ?

I always pictured you as taller slam. That pic next to Bess makes you look tiny.

Hey PUNK!

You're the only Guy on MM that can get away with a 1,087 Yard Shot & Not Get your Butt Chewed!:D:D:D
