A friend and I are planning an archery mule deer hunt in CO for 2017. Planning to go around Thanksgiving. Looking for a semi or non-guided hunt. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There are archery season's east of I-25 late in year, nov/dec. However vast majority of land is private. Units that do have public land I imagine take at least a couple points to draw.
There is a late rifle season too I think??? Anytime there is a rifle season you can use your archery tackle...

First. All deer hunting is by drawing only. You can't just buy a tag. You need to apply in April. Second. The seasons are very sepecific and usually run only 5-10 days long. The exception is archery season that normally runs from last weekend in August until late September. Go to the Colorado parks and wildlife website. First read the "hunt planner" and then read the big game brochure. That will familiarize you with the seasons and what is available. Then you will have more questions.

archery dates for east of I-25 this year were/are Oct 1-28, Nov 9-30 and dec 15-31. There are also two rifle seasons in between the archery dates you can use your bow in.
They are not always the same but similar.
You can look up the 5 year plan and see what the future dates will be.
Can also look up the draw odds under the statistics section under big game.
Like txhntr said though, no OTC deer tags, must get them in draw or as leftovers. Unless you buy a landowner voucher, those are most likely going to be top dollar out east though now a days.

It also depends on what you want on a hunt. I come to Colorado to hunt the mountains. The hunts he is talking about are on the eastern plains. Public hunting is possible but mostly private
