Idaho Backcountry

New member here hoping you guys could help me a bit. Lookin to do a Backcountry mule deer hunt in Idaho within the next 2 years. I want to pack in on foot im 20 and am an avid backpacker so long days hiking aren't a problem. Unit 43 and 50 interest me the most but any unit with mule deer will do. Not looking for any specific spots just general areas to get me started. Been hunting blacktails in northern California all my life with pretty good luck and I want to mix it up a bit. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Best of hunting to you all.

I'm no help in Idaho, but since you are only 20, be sure to get some preference points for other states. That way you'll have chances to do other quality hunts. Unless you are like Bess and then you just get points forever without drawing.

I have a decent amount of experience in Idaho, having been been born and raised there and hunting for the last twenty years. I'm definitely willing to discuss what might be the best unit for you and even point you to some specific good areas.

Weapon, hunting dates, and deer expectations (trophy, etc.) are questions I have to determine which hunt might be best. There are a lot of pros/cons. If you're interested in picking up an elk tag as well, then I could point you toward a place for a decent deer/elk combo.

Talking on the phone might be easest. Call if you want 208-863-1273. Otherwise, PM me with more information about what you're looking for and I can provide more information.

I am from Idaho and can also provide some insight.

Idhikker, I am also going to call you to chat about our great state
