LAST EDITED ON Sep-10-07 AT 04:56PM (MST)[p]Just spent a weekend scouting and learning HD 320 with my wife (who has the permit). We weren't expecting her to draw the tag, were just putting her in for points more than anything (she is 8-1/2 months pregnant). And of course, guess who drew - go figure...
Anyway, she won't be able to hunt until about Nov. 1. Anyone had much for experience with goats in this area? It is 320/333, the Tobacco Root Mountains.
She might be able to sit a horse (we have 4). I normally wouldn't ask much for questions, but am really looking for some sort of possibilities for her since she will be so limited physically.
We think we know about where we want to be, but anything that would put her in closer range of a goat without pushing her too hard would be awesome. She's excited about getting a mountain goat, and I would hate to see it go to waste.

Id try south meadow creek if i was in your situation. Some roads will take you closer to goat country although they will be rough, they probally wont be as rough as a horse. Good luck to ya!

LAST EDITED ON Sep-21-07 AT 09:29AM (MST)[p]I've seen lots of goats up both North and South Meadow creeks, as well as Willow creek. I've not spent much time on the Twin/Sheridan side though. I'm sure its most of the same. There are lots of roads/atv tails up there, access really isn't that big of an issue IMO. Climbing the last 1000' in the last mile or so will be the hard part.

Thats a pretty decent tag to draw as far as goats/access go.

Good luck, I hope she gets her goat!

Forgot, if you haven't already, contact the local Biologist, and find out where those goats winter. Getting into Nov, you could get snowed out of the high country.

Any moose around there? Heading over Friday from WA for a long weekend with the old man who has a tag. I get to spot & pack if we're lucky. Maybe I'll have a goat report when I return next week.

I'm packing my stuff last night & he calls & said he got 1 yesterday so no moose hunt for me. He sez he still has a bear tag so maybe a day looking & some fishing.

At 8 1/2 months pregnant I would not put my wife on a horse and risk injury to the unborn child. Call the MT FW&P to get a refund - health concerns. If you do decide to I hope the good Lord watches out for the both of you. If you have havested a goat - congradulations.

No luck yet. Made it up to Bell Lake and South Meadow Creek Lakes last weekend. We can get to about 9000 feet - problem is all the goats still seem to be at 10,000. Actually haven't even seen one yet. Ran into a guy that finally found one after two straight weeks of trying.
Anyone seen any? Logistics suck on this one, trying to arrange for a nanny close by (the human kind) to watch the kid (human kind) while we try to jet up a mountain to shoot a billy or nanny (the goat kind)...

I would go up the south fork of the Boulder river until you reach the trail to Sailor Lake walk up to the lake then go around the south end of the lake and catch the trail that goes to a couple of smaller lakes above. If you are patient and watch the ridge to the north you will likely see some goats. They will often work out of the trees in the morning and the shots can be doable from the bottom. The entire ridge between Sailor Lake and Curly creek is good for goats . Also watch closely as you near the end of the road as there often goats in the rocky timbered hills on the west side of the road.As a last resort you could try to get permission on the Whiterock ranch out of Siver Star.It is usually closed to the public but they will occaisionaaly let late season goat hunters in as the goats move into there place.I would play the pregnant wife card when I called.I hope this helps.Good Hunting
