My Monte Cristo buck, taken October 27th with my brother in law(pictured)
A big thanks to him for having the patience to make me sit still for 10 hours!
Worth the wait!
I'm wondering if anyone out there has seen this buck on the hoof?
He is headed to the taxidermist, as he is worthy of a shoulder mount in every way.
He has a broken cheater on his right G3 and I'm curious what he looked like before it broke.
Also curious how wide y?all think he is, the buck, not my brother in law...
Hope you enjoy this photo as much as I enjoyed the hunt!

Not a lot of those on the public land on Monte Cristo. Must have got lost and wandered off Deseret Land and Livestock, or off the thousands of acres of private in the area. Well done..!!

"Therefore, wo be unto him that is at ease in Zion!" 2 Ne. 28: 24

Congrats on a cool buck! I'd be interested to see what the age of that deer is.

Sit tall in the saddle, hold your head up high, keep your eyes fixed to where the trail meets the sky...

I hate to be that guy but if this a public land hunt and not a private land then the division should be writing your cousin there a ticket for not wearing proper orange on a hunt i am tired of seing hunter who do not follow this law. It is a safety issue and if he was to get shot then you and your family would raise hell about a pearson making a mistake so i find it hard to beilieve this is public land. With that being said it is a beautiful buck by all menes.

Where does the rule say members of the party must wear orange?

Nice buck BTW

All hunters must wear proper orange. If you are not a hunter but are with a hunter you DO NOT need to wear orange!

Requirement to wear
hunter orange
Utah Code ? 23-20-31
You must wear a minimum of 400 square
inches of hunter orange material on your
head, chest and back while hunting any spe-
cies of big game, unless you are involved in
one of the following types of hunts:
?Participating in a once-in-a-lifetime,
statewide conservation or statewide
sportsman hunt
?Participating in an archery or muzzle-
loader hunt outside of an area where an
any legal weapon general-season bull
elk or any legal weapon general-season
buck deer hunt is occurring
?Hunting on a cooperative wildlife
management unit (CWMU), unless
hunter orange is otherwise required by
the operator of the CWMU
?Participating in urban deer removal,
as authorized by Utah Admin. Rule

LAST EDITED ON Oct-29-18 AT 01:10PM (MST)[p]If you really hate to be that guy UH1979, then don't be that guy! Everything was legal, ethical and true in my original post. Bro in law was not hunting, but wore orange whenever he was not right next to me. I would never put anyone, including this great man, in danger and have the safety of everyone in mind when I hunt. In the picture we were in kind of a hidden meadow with no long distance viewing possible, so this was in no way a dangerous photo, and I was right there with him in blaze orange. As far as the public land comment goes, we were on public ground, end of story. Some people just see the world and want to put a negative spin on it. With that being said, thank you for saying it is a beautiful buck, because it really is a beautiful buck. I have loved viewing all the great bucks on this site for years and finally connected with one I thought y?all would truly appreciate. Seeing these types of accusatory responses has been one of the reasons I've never posted. To all who enjoyed seeing it, thanks for the kind words! Great guess on the first post buckshot! Right on the nose! PM me and I'll share something with you! Not one to exaggerate, I guessed him in the field at 26-28? wide and 165-170?. By my unofficial measurement he goes 181 7/8 gross, with an inside spread of 25? and main beams at right under 24?, greatest spread of 31.5?. Love that 6? dropper! Thanks again for the support!

Nice buck.

The way I read the law is your buddy had no tag and was not hunting!!! His choice. And I'm not convinced hunters orange makes it safer as many states not required and I haven't heard of increased problems there. Also, Once tag is punched that person is no longer hunting. I try to remove hunter orange for photos. I think it is legal.

The "hunter" must wear orange. That means the person with the tag. And having a few pics without the pumpkin gear is also not some horrible act of law breaking. That is a perfect example of why people don't like to come on here and post pictures anymore.

Great buck with tons of character, congrats, he'll look beautiful on the wall.

That buck is awesome! Congratulations. You did great! Send me a couple photos of you with the buck and I'll share them in the Contest Gallery.

Outstanding buck ElkIsLife!
And thanks for posting, despite the one harassing comment. Also, classy response on your part.
Bucks like that are few and far between, especially on public ground, but I've seen a number of really nice public bucks posted this year. I hope that's a trend.
Congratulations to you, and your brother in law for digging up a diamond! :)
Good on you man.

No orange?!? The nerve! Yep, that's the reason you'll never see my mug or any of my animals posted here or anywhere else because someone always looking to tear you down Oh yeah, pretty cool buck too. Huge congrats

LAST EDITED ON Oct-29-18 AT 08:05PM (MST)[p]I really appreciate all the support y?all! I will post a few more pictures tomorrow showing some of his cool character. His browtines/bases are really neat with some cool short points and beading. Also has really cool blading on the tips of his main beams. Still wondering if anyone else has pictures or video of this buck. It would be really neat to see him on film. Thanks again!
Oh, and I'll post my pumpkin picture too!

Hey y?all! I am adding a few more photos to show some of the character of this buck.
I don't generally like to over exaggerate, but my friend Randy told me I have to show the extended arm shot. I kinda liked the shot too!
From the overall width to the dropper and the curly browtines and also the blading of the main beams, this buck seems to be adding character the more I look at him.
Again a HUGE thanks to Spencer for his help and for making me wait this buck out!
Hope you like the photos!

I will reiterate what was already said: If you "hate to be that guy," then don't be that guy. Especially if you don't know what you're talking about.

If you aren't hunting, you don't need to wear orange. And after you have killed the animal, you are no longer hunting, and therefore no longer required to wear orange. And the orange requirement does not only apply to public land. Private lands require orange too. Get educated on the law before you are too hard on others. Or just don't be hard on others. Either way, it's better to be educated on the law and what it actually requires.

Great buck. Glad to see there are still some of those left on public land on Monte! I spent a lot of time as a kid up there with my dad.

Its amazing to me that any hunters in Idaho and Wyoming survive each year... After all, in Idaho, they don't have to wear ANY orange at all... On OTC tags... And in WY all they have to wear is a hat with a bit of orange on it... Weird that more hunters aren't shot each year...

You're required to wear one florescent orange garment in Wyoming; that includes a hat. The entire hat, under law, is supposed to be orange. Camo orange is acceptable.. You're subject to citation if you wear a hat that is only part orange. Also, orange bands of cloth around your cowboy hat are not legal!

That being said, congrats on a great buck!

Great buck!! My guess would be the broken cheater off his R side was at least the same length as his L side, maybe even a tad longer judging by the mass and circumference from where it broke.
Congrats on a great buck!

Haven't you seen a typical Mossback photo with a possey of up to a dozen guides and one hunter, with only the hunter carrying the gun wearing a speck of orange. I guess the orange is intended to keep him from shooting himself.

Who gives a f*^k about whether he should or shouldn't be wearing orange...

To the OP great buck!!!

You mean the flatbrim-Insta-hero-hunters...?

Ya, that is a great buck.
I wish I would find one like that!
I am not to crazy about the pictures with the orange vest on. Some of the time I will take mine off for the pictures but I keep it close and visible from all directions just for safety.

Congrats! That's a dream buck for me. I have hunted for over 30 years and yet to kill anything that nice. Well done!

Hey friends! I appreciate all the friendly comments.
It has been three weeks now since I harvested this great
buck and I have had four meals from him in that time.
Best deer I've ever eaten and I'll be eating for many months
given the weight of the deer.
Still in awe of his mass and width, but I made it through a couple
of days now without picking up and admiring the huge rack.
Can?t wait to see how he looks on the wall!!!!
Really a great community here, you've restored my faith in
other hunters truly wanting the best for their fellow hunter!
Good luck to any who still have a tag to fill and good luck drawing
a tag next spring!

Congrats Elk! Some guys cant help being themselves on here... if u know what i mean. Jealousy is a b*tch!

Very pretty buck, thanks for sharing!

Fantastic buck! Congratulations. Don't sweat the orange. I see enough of it hunting. Don't need it in the success photos.

Congrats on a nice buck.....Utah Hunters are the craziest bunch I've ever run in to....and I've hunted in 8 different states..
