The buck is reportedly arrowed in CO.

Congratulations to the hunter! I'm sure it took a lot of skill and dedication to harvest that thing.
But
Honestly I think that buck is junk!
Doesn?t even look like a mule deer rack. Might as well be a different species.
The only way he could possibly score that much is from all that ugly crap growing out like mold or something.
Not nearly as impressive as a big nontypical with a good four point mainframe in my opinion.

I agree that it looks like a cactus buck.
Even the shape of its head doesn't look like a stud buck.
It has that cactus looking face similar to doe.
Goofy looking thing!

The condition can still affect deer with all their parts intact. P&Y needs to be able to make this distinction. One look at this deer will tell you it had some form of abnormal antler growth.

Agreed. Looks in every way to be a cactus buck.
My wife killed one a few years back. The look of the antler configuration and even the face are telling to me.
However if he meets the requirements of the measuring clubs then there ya go.
Also, my wife's buck had both nuts, they were the size of almonds still in the shell but they were there. So just because he has them doesnt mean they work.

It is NOT a cactus buck. I'm well aware of P&Y?s requirements, as I'm on their records committee and an OM. Besides, cactus bucks are accepted by P&Y.......unlike B&C. Just an FYI

If you take a young buck and physically notch his antlers while early on in velvet antler growth you can end up with something like this 340?buck.

The damage done is stored in the the part of the brain where alter growth is stored. That damage will be replicated and enhanced with each new set of antlers.

This process will not work if the deer is placed under anastesia.

Deer antler growth is effected by a ton of different things including mental stress placed on younger bucks by older more agresive bucks.

Here is an article that can lead you to a lot of avenues of research in the field of antler growth.

hmmmmmmm.....what a monster....

I see difficulty scoring that one.....and I don't see much of a typical front on the right....

I can't wait to see an official score....

GOODWIN: Dems really do love Republicans -- when they're dead...

Definitely an anomaly . If this buck has normal testosterone, he is no older than 3.5-4.5 yrs old. Normal testosterone would suggest more pronounced big buck features, but reminds me allot of the Hunsaker buck which stands 3rd in the world non- typ. !!!

"I would give MY left nut to shoot that buck."

I would become a "Cactus Hunter" to harvest that truly unique buck!!!

The best thing about this buck is it sounds like he was harvested by a every day hard hunting guy, rather than an Outfitter with 50 guides trying to relocate him for a high roller millionaire!

Unreal Buck congrats to the hunter!!!

He does kinda have that cactus buck look to him, but if they say he isn't, I will take their word for it for the time being. He does have more mass and solid antler than most of the cactus bucks I've ever seen. It does look to me like he is shedding his antlers, and not just adding to what he has each year.

I don't know why people are thinking he looks like a younger deer. He has that white face that I see on most older early season bucks and his body looks to be pretty good sized. You can tell by the bulbs on his antler tips that it was still pretty early in the season and even mature bucks don't look as big and blocky that time of year.

Awesome buck and a huge congrats to the hunter and his hunting group! Looking forward to seeing the buck at the expo and reading the story in the magazine. Super cool trophy!

Isn't the 348 # the green score? And hes way past 60 days so I'd expect an official # any day.

>So, no net green score yet?
>

Blackovis is doing a "guess his net score and number of scoreable points contest" of some sort at the expo this weekend, so I'm sure the net score won't come out until after that.

I got a email from western hunter saying this buck would be at the expo and they were going to have a guess the score contest (net). I never saw it and I was there 2 days. Did I miss it?

Why? Too late now he's dead...bucks like this are anomalies. A genetic freak that can pop up about anywhere. How many Spider bulls showed up after it was killed? I couldn't run from the unit or drainage fast enough to avoid the shet show the following years.

Because people don't use their noggin like you are. LOL I guarantee that drainage will see an increased number of hunters this year.
