Moonlight Fire

Over 50,000 acres and no idea when they're gonna get a handle on it. X6A just shrunk by about 1/3. Friend was up there Mon-Sat, says they don't have a chance. Burned into the Antelope Lake fire from a month ago and ran out of fuel to the east. If we get our normal prevailing south west winds, Janesville will be in trouble. I've got lots of defensible space but if it crests the ridge, I'm gonna lay down about 10 big pines and a couple of 80 year old oaks. Can't count on CDF, FS or BLM. Too many houses in the trees for them to put a truck on all of them.

Good luck, do what you can but...Keep yourself safe! You can always get another house,it's you that can not be replaced.........Jim

Amen....hate to see fires get so close to your home. My grandpa had a saying... A man does what needs to be done to keep his family safe. Good luck to you and yours.

Califelkslayer,

Good luck and stay safe. Hope it stays clear of your place. The fire is needed and should be allowed to burn it's just a fine line to argue because no one should loose their house either. Wish you the best.

Horror stories are starting to come out.Sounds like it toasted the landscape and probably burned so hot it sterilized the ground. Not a good fire.To bad, if it would have burned better it could have done alot of good.

It was over 62,000 yesterday AM. NO, X6A ISN'T ONLY 150,000 ACRES! Fire was 2% percent contained when I posted that plus 1/2 of the unit is private. If you include the Antelope Fire from July (30,000+ acres) and whats gonna burn before it snows, I'll bet you 50% of the public land in X6A is gonna burn this year.

Forecast for 15-20 mile an hour winds tomorrow and 20-35 on Friday. No wind the last 2 days and only 42% contained this morning. Low Temps in 40's last night and the next 2, maybe into the 30's over the weekend.

Jumbo jet bombers, huge helos, no wind, low temps = 42% containment. What happens when the wind blows.

In my opinion, they threw all of their resources at the south flank of the fire early this week to save 25-50 homes. Normal prevailing winds are from the South/SouthWest. Between 750-1000 homes in timber in Janesville. Now that the winds have returned to normal, those houses are in it's path. If it crests the ridge, we'll lose twice the homes Tahoe lost. I know its personal but I also believe in the
greater good.
