Cover story of latest Trophy Hunter

Has anyone else read the story in the latest Trophy Hunter about the new Utah state record elk? Was the guy pathetic or what. I can't even believe he would want that story published. The guy forgot his rifle at home, he didn't want to go hunting that day because he had a little fresh snow, he forgot his bullets in his truck, he wounded the elk and had to wait 1 1/2 hours for his nephew to bring his lazy ass some more bullets, and Doyle Moss basically did everything for him but pull the trigger. It hunters like this guy that give the rest of us a bad name. I can't believe Trophy Hunter put this animal on the cover just because of the story that goes along with it. Total moron that does not deserve the animal that he took. If you can't respect the animal you are hunting enough to carry enough ammo to put it down humanely you should not be hunting. Pathetic!
My two cents anyways.

I have read this story and I agree with you that this guy is a pathetic hunter. I bought the Mossback screaming bulls 2 video, just because it has this hunt featured in it. I wanted to see if it showed the whole hunt, or even mentioned what events had taken place during the hunt, but it didn't all it shows is his lazy ass barely being able to hike up the hill and then three shots. I think the mossback crew should show how stupid this guy was because that is the main elk selling their video. Put the whole hunt on there so the hunter can be harrassed everywhere he goes. That is if you can really call him a hunter.

Thats just my opinion though

WELL LETS SEE

IF I EVER DRAW A SPORTSMANS TAG (WHICH I KNOW I NEVER WILL) WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE CALL ME AND TAKE ME TO THE NEXT STATE RECORD???

I PROMISE I'LL BE PACKING ENOUGH BULLETS,NOBODY WILL HAVE TO HIKE BACK TO MY TRUCK!!!

I'LL TRY NOT TO GUT SHOOT THE ANIMAL!!!

THE BULL IS AWESOME,I HOPE MOSSBACK OUTFITTERS GOT MORE THAN JUST THE EXPERIENCE OUT OF THE DEAL,BUT IT DOESN'T SOUND GOOD,HOPEFULLY THEY CAN RECOVER ON RECOGNITION AND THE VIDEO!!!

THE ONLY bobcat WONDERING IF THIS GUY EVEN DESERVES THIS BULL???

This is not the first story of this kind. TH has had its share of total idiots writting stories.

Word is that his elk won't be the state record anymore, the new state record is supposedly off of Indian Peaks. Hope he has a better story.

Does anyone know if this bull came out of hobble creek canyon? I heard it did but you know how that goes. I have been watching some monsters up there in their winter range the last 3-4 years. How many bullets should you pack anyway? I pack at least 47. Two full boxes, plus 2 mags.

I pack two clips, a loaded rifle, and probably 10 on a sleave on the butt of my rifle. If that doesn't do it I better quit hunting.

I also pack a couple of gallons of water and a phone book. Get better traction. Seriously though, most bullets I have ever used is 6 but I am not going to run out. If I were ever lucky or rich enough to get a governors tag I would not hire a guide. I Probably wouldn't shoot the new state record but whatever I did get would be earned.

Shane, I'm glad you posted this. I was thinking about doing it. How can you already hunt for 2 months and still be out of shape? I am going to Idaho this weekend for a general deer hunt and I have been running for 2 months. Plus the whole rifle and ammunition thing was a joke. I don't count on anyone to do anything for me when it comes to hunting. As far as Doyle Moss, I'm sure he will make money off of the hunt. By video sales and guiding publicity. If I had the tag, I would use him.

They said the bull was taken in hobble creek, but it wasn't. I found the carcuss and kill sight last spring and it wasn't in hobble creek.

I'm glad somebody posted on this.. that guy is a dipstick. Lucky does not equal good..

Modi, just curious. How do you know the kill you found was the same kill? I'm not calling you a liar so don't take this wrong. I'm just curious is all.. Plus imagine what people might pay you for that little tidbit of info..

Yes I found the carcuss. I looked at the picture on doyles web sight and I knew exactly where the picture was taken. So I went up in the spring to the kill sight and there it was. The carcuss consisted of rib cage, back bone, skull (horns cut off), pelvic bone, legs and no hide anywhere. I guess the buzzards filled up on what was left. I'm sure they cut meat off and packed it out. Packing out the whole thing from there would be very tough in 2 ft of snow.
