I am fairly new to the sport of hunting for Elk. I have a rifle hunt coming up the end of november and wondered if anyone out there has ever had any luck in the unit I'm going to hunt in. I hunted there last year for the first time and didn't even see an elk. We did hear coyote howls and barks which was cool to hear. We also got a shot off at a coyote. We have scouted the area before but this year I will only have Two wheel drive access to the unit. Anyone out there with any scout tips or possible places to scout out in this unit would be appreciated. I'd really like to put a nice Cow Elk in the freezer. Thanks.

I think a couple of the guys here might have an idea. Send a note to crazyaboutcoues and Vinihunt. crazy has a do it yourself map service where he scouts and takes pictures of your unit and areas with animals in the pics for a small fee if you cant scout it out....hope this helps...... >vinihunt , We have drove around forest road 100 to 99 from youngsville as far as i could go on 99 heading toward the caldera. We have also been in from 126 to 103 and camped along 315. we have been down 315 all the way down to 144 but i could not go east on 144 due to it being pretty rough road. Last year we did most of the driving /scouting in a four wheel drive. Also we have looked aroundTea Kettle rock area but didn't see any animals. We did find evidence of Elk and bedding in one area off of 315 but the beds were probably a day or two old. This year my buds and i all have 3 weeks straight of separate hunts. Since i dont have 4 wheel drive i got to find somewhere i can hopefully get in and out of.Thanks for any tips you may have.

Aboogie.
