looking for work

I'm in colorado Cam so I won't be of much help, but maybe give us a little more about you. I'm guessin yer young (which is a good thing, most of us wish we still were) so tell us what you've done in the past for work or what yer good at or the type of work yer lookin for. Good luck Cam!

I used to be a janitor for albion middle school I was in ninth grade while working there I worked there for 12 months I also worked at the state hospital at simple pleasures as a cashier im a hard worker

So it sounds like you are young. Dont take this the wrong way, but here is my spill.

There are 9 million jobs out there. Trust me. I am trying to hire people the best I can. I own the Arctic Circle in Orem. As I drive up State street every day, I see lots of pan handlers and Tons of "NOW HIRING" signs on every building and every window. I hear this all the time, and I used to get pi$$ed, but not as much any more. But everyone is "TOO GOOD" for fast food. Some of my employees are making $12 + per hour plus bonuses. Many are at the $10 range that give somewhat of an effort and that have a year or 2 behind them. NOW I know this is not a career type job. It is meant for high school aged kids and college kids to work through as they do school. Any job is a great JOB. Dont look down at any job. The truth is, I bet many cant handle the stress of working with the public face to face. Its hard. If you are in the SLC area I know there are lots of Arctic Cirlces looking to hire. :)

Good luck. Just drive down the road and I bet you will see lots of signs, literally!!!

I am guessing your young too.

First, learn how to comunicate. Both Cabelas and Sportsmans need people who can talk. Your OP was meaningless, and didn't tell anyone anything.

Second. Take your phone and lock it in your room. The cell phone is the downfall of all employees. Your paid to perform a task.

Third. Be prepared. Both Cabelas and Sportmans are 7 days a week. YOU WILL work every Sat, and every Sun. You WILL work black friday, New Years, 4th of July, etc. You will be busiest at deer hunt, elk hunt, etc, so be prepared for the sacrifice.

Forth, Good luck man. But Rob is right, any job is better than no job.

Advice from an old guy. I have always told my kids and anyone else that will listen to work every job like you are being paid a $100 an hour some day you will be being paid $100 an hour. Good luck Cam.

It's a great time to be young and looking for work. Lots of entry level jobs out there. Grab one and go prove yourself. Go at it like you're killing snakes and you will move up in life. Show up every day on time, and ready to work. You'll blow everybody away and your boss will notice. When it comes time to move on, you'll get a good recommendation.

So Robiland, now that we are MM friends, and you own the AC, do I get the 50% off peanut butter cup shake? Gawd knows my fat azz loves them little puppies

I was thinking along those lines myself.
Hired a guy a few months back great worker knew the job(Trailer repair tech)made good money bump him up after the 2 weeks work, gave him a dollar raise, he quit shortly after that because he didn't like working in the heat.
Now he trying to draw unemployment. Told one of the other guys in the shop he figures he can make it on that.
I really don't understand the idea behind that type of behavior.

dz,
I've told my kids about the same thing.
If you want a raise or a promotion, do the work FIRST so the boss can see you in that position and doesn't have to guess that you can do it.

Knew a fellow who started out as a janitor for AT&T ended up as a Senior Vise President. To many of the the young people today want to start higher than their experience will dictate.

Others may be hard workers, but are so short lived on the job because they will not eat the smallest amount of "crow" and quit. They move from job to job until no one will hire them because of past work longevity.

I might suggest getting some help from an experienced resume builder and Job Service. Take suggestions on what you are qualified for. You may not be qualified for the job you want and just don't want to hear the inevitable.

camtopps1988,

Assuming that the 1988 in your MM handle is for the year you were born, let me give you some peer advice - you and I are the same age. Take the information that has already been given you on this thread to heart and incorporate it into your life.

You stated that you wanted to work at Sportsman's or Cabelas - that is great, but what about an education? Do you have anything past a high school diploma? Before someone comes on this thread and tells me a success story about someone who dropped out of school or doesn't have more than a high school diploma and through hard work started a successful business - let me say, I know - I have heard those stories before and certainly know a few individuals who have done that myself, but they are the exception, not the rule.

So, if you don't already have a trade certificate or college degree, my advice is to get one. Sure working at Sportsman's or Cabelas would be cool, but how are you going to make ends meet when you meet that special someone and want to have a family (presuming you do) working for $10.00 an hour?? In my personal opinion, it takes a good $50,000 - $60,000 gross to even get by anymore with a family - saving for a rainy day, retirement savings, house payments, car payments, bills, etc. can sure eat up a lot of money if one is not careful.

Do you like to hunt? Money helps.
Do you like to fish? Money helps.
Do you like to camp? Money helps.

As much as Utahans are cultured to think and believe that "money is the root of all evil," try sending a mortgage check to the lending company that bounces. There are very few things in life that don't require money and, generally speaking, the more money you have, the more opportunities you will have. THIS ALSO MEANS THE MORE OPPORTUNITIES YOU WILL HAVE TO GIVE OF YOURSELF AND HELP THOSE THAT ARE LESS FORTUNATE THAN YOU ARE.

In closing, here are a few things that have helped me climb the corporate ladder:

1. Never take a problem to your boss without providing what you think to be the solution(s) and if you tried those or not. One of my biggest pet-peeves is when someone brings me a problem and when I ask, "What have you done to try and fix the problem?" or "What do you think the solution is?" Their response is "Umm...ummm..." - this drives me crazy!!! People need to be proactive and have some initiative.

2. Be the first one to work in the morning and the last one to leave at night. This speaks volumes about your dedication and desire to succeed. Love him or hate him, Kobe Bryant refused to be outworked - Google some stories about him and you'll find he had already been in the gym for 2-3 hours before the rest of the team showed up to practice.

3. Treat people kindly. You never know when you will need something from someone you assumed you would never talk to again. If you treated them with kindness and respect, even if you disagree with them, you will be a lot better off.

4. Be a good communicator. I don't care if you are the smartest person in the world, if you cannot verbally communicate (speaking or writing), your inability to communicate will hinder your progression.

5. Set goals and become an expert in whatever field of career you choose.

Sorry if I sound like a parent - I do have two small children at home, so it kind of comes naturally now. :) I just get tired of "our" generation, and rightly so, being labeled as the worst. generation. ever. We live in such an incredible nation with amazing freedoms, paid for with the lives of those that have sacrificed for us and it behooves us to become something more.

Good luck!

WHAT? that makes no sense

How to start an argument online:
1. Express an opinion
2. Wait

You can't even start an apprenticeship in the building trades without at least a GED. You are somewhat unemployable. Get that GED!

Construction labor. No experience needed. 15.00 per hour to start. Need transportation and pass a drug test. Raise within 2-months. Send PM if interested.

What WW? You mean you won't go pick him up every day? haha

Hey campo88, there's a real offer from a real guy! Let's see what you do with it.
Zeke

>Im serious I need a job
>please help me out thank
>You private message me laters
>

Is this guy for real ? Or just jerking us around ?

WileyWapiti just offered you a job! Are you just going to ignore that offer or are you going to take him up on it? $15 an hour is a no brainer for no education and no experience necessary. Of course it sounds like you may actually have to work for the money.

Hey,

You already got a great offer from wiley and you didn't even respond. Maybe having to pass a drug test is a deal breaker?
So if you're not willing to take him up, maybe you like my offer better? Hell, if you are willing to work for free, I won't make you pass a drug test and I will even consider picking you up.
To sweeten the offer I will provide lunch.

P.m. if interested

Yep, we're getting jerked around by this jerk-king.

WW offered you a job and in the next post I said "let's see what this kid does with the offer" and yet nothing happened....except that you keeps asking for a job.

What's the real story here camtop88?

Zeke

go to the camp fire section there is a job advertised there for a gas man in the Kemmerer area check it out I believe it is a good job

>Anybody here work at cabelas or
>sportsmans warehouse

Pretty much sums it up. Dude quit high school, yet somehow thinks the world is just waiting breathlessly for him to come work for them. My friend. With that stupid decision you decided your going to work heavy construction. The mechanical trades require GED. Most if not all the warehouses require it. Everything requires it. In the past drywallers like me would look for kids like you, or ones who just knocked up there girlfriends, but that ended with the illegals that flooded in. Sorry bud, but your future looks like a pipe crew, hod tender, etc. Get your AZZ that GED or life is gonna be butt azz cold in the winter, and burning azz hot in the summer. Sorry its so harsh, but thats what trying to take the easy way bought you. STOP BEING A QUITTER!! STOP TRYING TO GET IT THE EASY WAY! In this world, a tenth grade drop out is useless. Illegals have a competitive edge. I won't hire you to hang drywall not because you don't have a GED, but because you already proved your a quitter, and quitters cost me lost time, frustration, unemployment, etc. Yup, consider that the azz chewing you should have got when you made the decision that high school was just too tough. If sitting in an air conditioned/heated building, hanging with your friends, and checking out all the tight bodied little hotties is just too damn tough, what do you think working Cabelas shipping dock, or night stocking Sportsmans is gonna be like? On I know, they were gonna make you head of the hunting department.
Good luck, but somehow I think that is what your dreaming of luck. As for me, I got drywall to hang this morning,(and I have a B.S. in Microbiology, not 10th grade).

"The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun"

Hey guess what my offer still stands. Today is the 23rd I haven't heard a word. Everywhere I go there are signs for help wanted. Just got to have enough ambition to show up!

A guy offered you a veey generous job at 15$/hr. I'd take it now. SW or cabelas you'll be lucky to get 10$. Say thanks and run, don't walk to WW and his job. Or you will be giving "handoutjobs" to the homeless for food.

Hey long time no hear camm. Thought for a minute there you maybe had a job keeping you occupied. How's the jerky search been goin?

Drove up to Cabela's this weekend. And they had a now hiring sign right in the parking lot. What are you waiting for?
