Well, as you can can see from the pic, I am still in a little bit of shock. Yesterday, which was the last day of the Utah General Elk hunt, I was able to get my elk.
The last 30 minutes of the elk hunt I decided to give my cow call a try. I had no confidence that it would work because I figured that the elk were no longer in the rut.
Immediatly after I made some soft calls I heard a crash then nothing but silence. I tried again and could hear, but not see anything. I hate to over use my call but tried again. After that call I heard cows/calves "meowing" everywhere and one bugle. I have never had that kind of a response (from cows) ever; to a cow call.
Then again it was silence. The guy I was with suggested that we walk quitely over the next ridge. When we came over the top we could see the elk. One shot and I was fortunate to make a quick kill. Its not a monster but I feel very fortunate to take a 6X6 on the Utah General.
