My 2003 Elk(pics)

Well, here are pics of my 2003 Elk. Unfortunately, I didn't draw for the LE Unit I wanted, so I got me cow tag. It was a fun hunt that only lasted 3 days....i took this cow on the third day at about 7:00 am....it was barely light enough to shoot. She came through with about 15 other cows and calves....my buddy took one of the other cows at about 30 yards...which sent the herd running. I finally had a clear shot at her at about 100 yards, once she split up from the herd. I hit her a little higher than I wouldve liked, but it did the job, cause she dropped right where I hit her running. She ended up being a decent sized cow....I ended up getting 310 pounds of meat out of her....

Ive been putting in for the Central Mts.-Manti unit for a while now...i think i have 5 bonus points...unfortunately, I know people who have maxed out and still haven't drawn....what sucks even more is I know a guy who drew without any bonus points. Oh, well, guess its the "luck" of the draw!!

Congrats...... Good eating ahead. I know what you mean about the luck of the draw. I out in for 8 years before I got my 1st elk tag 3 years ago, I am back up to 3 bonus points now, and hopeing for some love from game and fish next year. I am maxed on points for antelope.

This year my wife decided she would hunt with me again. She hasn't hunted with me since a bad experiance a few years ago hunting deer. We put in for elk seperately because they split the bonus points, and I didn't want to take that reduction. Needless to say, I got a refund check, and a bonus point, and my wife drew a unit 8 bull tag her 1st time ever putting in.

Thats OK, I am more excited to take her on her elk hunt then I would be if I had my own tag. LUCK OF THE DRAW. At least we both got deer tags.
