If you were a non-resident and had 9 points which unit would you apply for if you were looking for a 180+ class buck. My brother is in this situation and can't decide on wether to keep with the henry's, or try another unit with better odds.

If it was me, I would be patient and keep putting in for the Henry's. But, if you are ready to hunt now, put in for the Bookcliffs or the Vernon West Desert unit.

Oh wait, I didn't look up the odds. Perhaps you can't even draw those units either.

With 9 points, your best odds on drawing an area and taking a 180" buck is the book cliff's. Rifle or muzzle loader.
Good luck!!

It appears that the Book Cliffs rifle odds are about 50/50 for nine points. Vernon is a sure bet. Both places hold 180" deer, but big deer are not guaranteed in any unit! It could be many more moons before a Henry's tag is a sure thing so it's all about patience. Today's drawing odds dictate that a Henry's tag is pretty much a "once in a lifetime" tag, so you have to ask yourself if you really want one or not!

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum, but am I hearing you guys right that a NR has 9 points and still has a way to go to draw a good unit. Wow, I have a long way to go. I hope I live long enough to get to hunt Utah.

If it were me.. I would look to the Henry Mtns. and nothing else. Since he is a NR, he's probably up to going to other states? Maybe look to Colorado for a deer fix while you wait for that Henrys tag?

With 9 points, you can draw the book cliffs.
It has 180" bucks if you hunt for them. Lot's and lot's of 160-170 running around, and a few 190 & 200's have shown up out of there as well.
Try this website, it will help show you what you are eligible for.

good luck!

If it were me I'd look into trading my 9 Utah points for 3 Colorado points and calling it good:)

Go for the Book Cliffs. Unless he's a really young man he may never draw the Henries in his lifetime. Aren't the odds like 1 in 600 for nonresidents???
