Oregon late season elk

I have been lurking around the fringes of this board for a while now. I enjoy reading the posts, those that are successful and those that aren't. I finally decided to post a question that I have. This is my third year elk hunting and the first in Oregon. I will be hunting with a bow in late November early December in western Oregon, probably around the Santiam river. Any advice on how to locate a late season Elk would be appreciated. All the movies show is during the rut.

Thanks in advance.

hey,I will be pretty close to you.Im hunting near trail bridge res at the same time.we might run into each other out there.

Go for the snow! What we do on a daily basis during the late hunt is find the snow and then find the tracks. From there follow the tracks until you hit an elks rear end and thump him. No calling, just be kinda sneaky. If you find some fresh tracks they won't have any snow in the hoof prints, they'll be pretty close at that point. Good luck.

Lots of hiking and glassing. Look for fresh tracks and sign...then follow them. Keep in mind that the spikes and rag horns will be with the cows, and the big bulls will all be off by themselves.
Good luck
