What general season did you put in for?

We put in for Pine Valley again this year. Last year we had 2 points and didn't draw, but excited to have a better shot this year.

I'm curious to see how things turn out with no more loophole.

1911- How many points you have? Are you a NR? I think there are only 4 NR tags allotted for 1000 Lakes, right? I am getting one so you might have a hard time...if you aren't a Tard, that is.

Cancer doesn't discriminate...don't take your good health for granted because it can be gone in a heartbeat. Please go back and read the last line. This time really understand what it says.

0 points. As the resident president my tag is as good as in hand. I have a lifetime tag. Let me know if you draw.

I decided to trust BigJohns judgement and put in for 1000 Lake with my son. I have 6 points he has 2 so average 4. Took 5 last year but maybe with the loophole gone it will lower a little. We shall see.

Nope this year will give me 15 Gen Deer points and I have 8 LE Deer points.

I just get a leftover Gen bow deer each year.

JUDAS Robb!

That's kinda like My 8 Turkey Points!:D

Guess I'm Wrong but I didn't Think the General Deer Draw had been going long enough to Accumulate 15 General Points?

How Time Fly's!

General Buck-- 14-- 2016-- 2002-- 2017

Add the Pref point code for this year will give me 15 going into '18 draw.

We got 9 Turkey points going into '18 appl.......

No argument intended......

When they finally combine the Bonus and Pref point pools on deer then those 15 pts might be worth something....haha

Yes the loop hole was closed. So now when you draw a deer tag first or second choice you do not keep your points.
I am thinking even if you buy a left over archery tag you would loose your points as well. Not sure on that ?

Dutton any weapon. No second choice Dutton is where we want to hunt and don't want to loose points on second choice.
Is Big John correct in you loose points on a leftover tag also?

I don't think you would lose them for buying a leftover. But I believe that you should. If you don't it's still a loophole. Just a different one.

From the guidebook.

"Starting in 2017, you will lose all of your
preference points if you draw a general-season
deer permit, regardless of whether it was your
first, second, third, fourth or fifth hunt choice."

Doesn't say anything about leftover tags.

Any leftover tags should be disconnected from the drawing process in my opinion.... why punish someone for buying a tag no one wanted to apply for?

I was thinking that the idea was if you got a tag. It cost you a point ? I will have to do some ready and see if I can find anything.

Left over tags do not take your points away, as the only person at my RAC meeting to stay long enough for them to get to this topic I was the only one to voice opposition to it, but I did ask and they said that a left over licence would not effect your points.

The whole system is pretty stupid if you ask me, and whoever thought up the previous system where you drew a 2nd-5th choice over someone who put it as a 1st choice obviously knew what they were doing and wanted to game the system. Is there any way to know who actually made up the old system?

I just don't know why they needed to go from one extreme to the other. In my opinion they had a perfectly viable example of a good system by looking one state over to Colorado. You should be able to list and draw a 2nd choice tag without loosing your points. But without having an advantage over the people that put in for the same tag as a 1st choice. Points should only come into effect on 1st choice applications, after that it should be a complete random draw.

Anyway Rant over, this doesn't effect me any way and will actually help me in the future I'm sure as this will make the archery tags much easier to draw, but I have a lot of family that this is going to keep out of the hills.

Thanks for checking on it ! So that is the same as it was before the change.

How is it a loop hole to get a left over tag that nobody wanted? Why should you be penalized for wanting to hunt? If you can get a tag as a left over then its obviously not in high demand.

And if they had done like Colorado does and allow you to put in and draw a second choice without losing points they would have very few leftover tags anyway. But watch how many they have left over after this year. The DWR's goal is to sell those tags, they just made it much more difficult to get them all sold and added a new step into the process.

I looked at the left over tag last year for my teen daughter that didn't draw. They where mostly archery youth tags and a few muzzle loader tags up north. Of course we are talking about the general deer tags. So even if there are any left over. They aren't really good tags anyway.

Makes you wonder if the leftover tag pool will be a little bigger this year. I for one left my 2nd through 5th choices blank because it takes 2 point minimum to draw the unit I really want to hunt. If I can pick up a leftover tag without losing points I'm doing it.

You guys saying there won't be many leftovers are gonna be surprised I bet. Maybe not, but there wasn't many leftovers the last few years because people were putting 2nd - 5th choices. Now that you lose your points people are not going to be doing that. Because they want to hunt a particular unit/weapon. They arn't going to burn points on a lesser hunt. And I'm betting the odds for a lot of the rifle hunts are going to jump quite a bit within the next couple years.
