I met a guy at the truck stop yesterday that was on his way to NM for a late season hunt, said he will have a chance at 350 to 400" bulls I believe he said Unit 15, How many tags do they put out for this late of hunt, I know unit 15 has some huge bulls in it and now with the snow pushing them down lower it should be a great hunt for these guys.

All of the hunts that I could find in unit 15 were finished on December 15th, and that was a cow hunt. The last bull hunt for next year and I believe was the same this year was Nov 22-24 which 350 permits were given out. This year the dates may not have been nov 22-24, but next year that is the latest bull hunt if there was a change on that hunt it would have some kind of note. Look at the NM game and fish webpage and it will show you the latest hunts in unit 15. Unit 15 is primitive weapons only. The website is www.gmfsh.state.nm.us. Maybe he was feeding you a line of bull. I know that the last cow hunt just ended in unit 15 because my brother in law just got back.

There are "Ranch Only" hunts for Muzzleloader/Bow that last through January 31, '04 in 15. These hunts are for any 5 consectuive days.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-19-03 AT 07:57AM (MST)[p]Heya Gator,

Ranch Only Landowner tags in NM have an extended season where hunters are staggered onto the property over 4 - 5 months for 5 days at a time. The only draw back (sometimes) is that you're limited to the rancher's property and are restricted to that pre-designated 5 day season. I think you do get to pick which 5 days if they have openings for those slots. I'm not sure if the landowner has restrictions on when hunters can hunt their property when they sign up for that deal.

I looked into the late muzz. hunts there and the general feeling was they were TOUGH, elk dissappear after all the pressure and snow makes it tough to get around.

I have a land owner tag that I traded for some taxidermy work. The tag is good until March. The ranch I'm hunting on is wintering ground, so I've just been waiting for the weather to push them into the area. I'll probably go this weekend or next. I just have to pick which 5 days to hunt, and go buy my tag.
