Elk on South Mountain Golf Course

My in-laws live on South Mountain in Draper. Their back deck looks down on the 17th fairway and right now there are about 20 elk bedded down in the scrub oak just off the fiarway.

Where do you think they came from? Would they have come from American Fork Canyon and crossed over to Corner Canyon?

Sometimes when I have hunted up in Corner Canyon I swore I saw elk droppings but I figured they were just big deer droppings. Maybe they were elk droppings? Seems strange.

I'll try and get some pictures but I don't want to get to close because I'm sure if they have made it this far that they have been pushed around a bunch already.

I sure hate seeing all the houses up there where the animals are trying to winter.

THERE ARE ACTUALLY A TON OF ELK THAT LIVE IN THE GRANITE ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF LONE PEAK ALL YEAR . USUALLY THEY MOVE OUT BEHIND MICRON BUT BECAUSE THEY ARE BUILDING THAT STUPID ROAD THERE MOST OF THE ANIMALS ARE CONFUSED WHERE TO GO!! I ALSO AGREE THERE SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN HOUSES PUT UP THERE AND ALL THE ONES THEY HAVE PLANS TO BE BUILT ON THE UTAH COUNTY SIDE SHOULD BE DONE AWAY WITH!!!!

There are no elk on Lone Peak or anywhere near South Mountain.

I don't know where you guys get this information but it's complete bunk!

Elk up in the granite, phfftttt! Yea right. I've hunted down that way for 20 years and there's never been an elk in the general vacinity :)

Cheers,
Pete

C3, YOU MUST BE BLIND COME TO MY HOUSE ONE NIGHT AND I'LL SHOW YOU A TON OF ELK INFACT COME ANY DAY OF THE YEAR AND I'LL SHOW YOU ELK ON THE PEAK!!!!

I have seen these elk in corner canyon while hunting. They are usually up high and head right back towards alpine as soon as they see a hunter. Those elk down by Thanksgiving point come from the same herd. I wish they would not build so high up the mountain. It really messes up the winter grounds. Have a great day.
