45 used to be one of my favorite areas back around 1997 to 2000. I was in there 2 yrs ago and deer numbers are way way down. Ranchers in the central portion told me the cat problem was so bad their horses would no longer leave the ranch, cat almost got one that summer. 3 yrs ago the NDOW did a lion study with their cat man in the south Tobins for sheep introduction. No cats were found, but no deer were either. Cat man said the cats have followed the deer right on outta here. The NDOW planted the sheep.
The rancher up on the north end of the Tobins is a guide and they used to consistantly take 30" bucks every yr. Last 2 yrs previous to me being there they saw no deer and got skunked each yr.
The Sonomas burned pretty bad about 4 or 5 yrs ago right off the top for miles to the south. When I was there the foxtails had over run the place. I saw about 8 does and a forked horn on the very top in the area that did not burn. Man...in 2000 you'd see 100 deer in one day up there, it was incredible.
Never been to 43, 44, or 46 so I can't help you there.
Good Luck
