How would you rank Utah's top 5 limited elk units / hunts in terms of hunt quality and trophy quality?

Yeah I have been apply in UT as a nonres for 4 or 5 years now... I consider a tag like winning the lottery and don't ever count on drawing. But I have always wondered what the residents and other nonresidents consider the best units...

I am in the market for a 320+ archery bull...

1 Manti

2 Pahvant

3 wasatch

4 san juan

5 book cliffs south

utah resident opinion. Monster bulls in each area. I've never drawn, so I don't know about the hunting, but the bulls are there.

any/all of them #1

everybody knows that there is a boon and crocket buck hiding behind a boon and crocket bull behind every bush in utah.

It all depends on what type of bull you are looking for
Right now the Pahvant is the top Big Bull unit in the state.

I don't think it matters. If you can draw any of the limited entry units, you are going to be able to see a very large elk.

I'd be happy as hell with a 320 bull and a quality hunt where I see a lot of bulls.

Where does South Diamond Mountain fall in the mix?

RYAN,

DON'T WASTE YOUR POINTS IN THIS AREA!!!

IT FALLS WAY OFF SCALE!!!

THE ONLY bobcat THINKING:ONE DAY BEFORE I DIE I'D LIKE A L.E. ELK TAG.!!!

Cass, where did the love go for Monroe Mt. ????

Last years results proved that most limited entry areas can produce big bulls since whoopers came out of areas that had not been notorious producers of high scoreing bulls, IE. Beaver,Boulder,Dutton.
I argue that areas that get a rap for being a big bull honey hole, seem to get knocked off that pedistool after 3 or 4 years, Monroe,Indian peaks,Pahvant have fallowed said formula.

Bobcat, are you trying to draw Elk this year ?
send me a PM of your point total if so & I'll give some ideas.

1. Monroe
2.pahvant
3.mt. dutton
4.beaver
5.book cliffs

Monroe has some absolute MONSTERS i cant wait until i draw a tag for this hunt.

Monroe
beaver
pahvant

I am only going to give my top three. I am lucky enough to live right in the middle of these three units.

,Utah

There has been one (1) bull killed that netted over 375 on the monroe ever. I dont think it is a #1 type unit MMSF & Reflex....
"Unless you talk to cass & the seven califorinicaters that went to the tool box"........

Thanks for the comments fellas....

What about units like Cache North, Nebo, La Sal's, or Three Corners?

Ryan, I sent you a email off of bowsite. In every area in Utah that has a LE tag 320 are not going to be a problem at all. In my thoughts. The best places are
Manti, Book Cliffs Roadless, Nebo (gets over looked alot),Pavant, Wasatch but in areas were no one road hunts. And Nine Mile Anthro, but there is alot of private land there. But again every LE area is going to give you bulls in the 320 class. Let me know I have pics and more info.

I have hunted monroe for deer every year and when iam deer hunting i always see at least a 350 bull but many times i see 375 or higher this last year i saw and absolute MONSTER this bulls horns touched its butt and its 3rd were monsters where most bulls lack this bull didnt he was the best bull i have ever seen.

Any of Utah's LE Archery units should produce a 320+ bull. I know the Pahvant, Boulder, Dutton, Monroe, West Desert, and Beaver will produce good bulls again next year...
GOOD LUCK with drawing a tag!!! It took me about 28 years to draw, and it was worth the wait, but wish I'd have another chance again...

Just curious why no one seems to rank Plateau Fishlake-Thousand Lakes? I'm also curious if spike only affects the quality of the limited hunt bulls?

Reflex...no bulls horns touch it's butt.. it would have to have 70" main beams.Monroe has to be about 7th on list.. wasatch 1st..

Take a look at how many limited entry bull tags that were issued for archery, muzz and rifle last year ( double or triple what was issued in prior years ). They wiped them out just like the cows a few years ago.

2nd what Elkslayer has said about the Fishlake, the Dutton is getting pounded the same way lately.
Bobcat, I can't E-mail check your inbox

THERES NOTHING IN MY INBOX!!!

MUST BE SOMETHING WRONG???

WAIT A MINUTE,I'LL CALL THE DWR,THEY CAN FIX ANYTHING!!!

THE ONLY bobcat WONDERING WHAT THE HELLS GOING ON???

1. The mountains to the southwest of Goshen, UT holds the future world record bull
2. Monroe stinks
3. Pavaunt is overrated
4. Book Cliffs, give it Colorado
5. Mt. Dutton is full of mutton

I have video from last Saturday of about 10 bulls all together in an LE unit not listed anywhere here. At least 3 of these bulls would go 350+.

Antler growth sure seems incredible this year!

This is a question that is becoming more difficult to determine, however, my current top 4 L.E. units would be as follows:
1. S.W. Desert
2. Pavant
3. San Juan
4. Deep Creek

Beyond those top 4 other tremendious units are as follows in no particular order:

Mt Dutton
Monroe
Manti
Wasatch
South Cache
North Cache
Book Cliffs

Very Good Under-rated units:
Boulder
Panguitch
Nebo
Beaver
Range Creek (Mostly private gound)
Oquirrh Stansbury (a lot of private gound)

Bottom Class of Units:
Three Corners (Improving)
LaSals (Improving, best areas on private ground)
Diamond Mtn. (Best areas on private ground)
Grouse Creek
Paunsaugunt (Does hold some big bulls, but low numbers of elk)

Other units that in the past were recognized as excellent, however, in recent years the number of large of bulls has declined due to either drought, fires, or poor management:
Pilot Mtn.
Anthroe
Fishlake

No elk down here on the San Juan, they all pulled out and moved to Colorado. Please spread the word, I would hate to see anyone waste their hard earned bonus points next year.
