LAST EDITED ON Jan-19-04 AT 09:05AM (MST)[p]has anyone seen the applications yet? Colorado.
1. what do yu think my chanches of drawing a muzzy license are if i rew one last year.
property i hunt is devided by 2 zones,
and where i camp is on the state owned side.
with only about 200 acres of privet ground,
which i have access to, and the other side of the road has 800 + acres of privet ground on which there is 300+ acres of hay fields.
2. I'm contiplating bow season which would allow me to pick up an over the counter tag and hunt for a couple weeks during prime rut. what do you think.
3. or apply for muzzy, and second choise first gun?

The applications won't be out for a few months...April I think. You can go to the CO DOW website and figure out your odds for drawing. It'll depend on what unit you want. They have posted the draw results for the entire state and each season for the last several years. You'll just have to check the quota of licenses and the number of people applying with more points than you. It takes a little figuring, since the tables are pretty much raw data, but you'll have a pretty good idea of your chances. The url is: http://wildlife.state.co.us/huntrecap/03HuntRecap/ELK.pdf

Go to the website mentioned for the info you need. However, looks like about 2000 people drew a muzzleloading tag with 0 points out of about 7000 that applied with 0 points (30% chance of drawing). Why not put in for a bull as your first choice and a muzz. cow for your second choice (you should get drawn for a cow on a second choice). The cow is only $250 and you can get some meat and scout for a bull for the following year when you should draw a tag. Putting the cow tag as a second choice will still generate a preference point if you get drawn for a cow.

Or: Put in for a bull tag, and if you don't get drawn buy an over the counter either sex archery tag

venor, ergo sum (I hunt, therefore I am)

last year i had bulls around me,all the time.,
Counted 17 bulls in the area at one sitting.
and at least 5 were 6 point or better.
Over the 9 days that i was there i saw somewere around 350 elk.
i'm not interested in a cow tag.
I just finished asking the dow how to obtain a license brochure,
It looks like this coming season everything is going computor.
still think i'm going to apply
(1) muzzy. state wide bull.
(2) first season gun, bull.
and if that doesn't pan,
bow (bull)over the counter, and i'll hunt the middle two weeks+ of the bow season.
also looking for a person to help share traveling expences,
and camp chores. so if you have a hankering to go elk hunting,
with over a 1000 acres of privet land, i'll cover the trespass fees.
its only 35 to 38 weeks away and its never to soon to start planning.
