Alright guys,
I'm making plans for a archery, non-res, non-guided, any sex, and a whole lot of fun elk hunt!!! Have a few questions for ya.

What would be a good location for this hunt?

What is the wheather like during archery season?

How easy are tags to fill(i mean get)!!!

Great site fellas, I've been looking all over for some good info.

It realy depends on your condition,
and what you have for means of transportation.
I would have a tendency to hunt deep, meaning away from the road,
if i were you I'd look either to the southern or the northwestern areas.
both have pleanty of elk.
the weather can be worm in the days and dropping of to the freezing mark at night. even a snow storm this time of the year isn't uncommon.
you may have to contend with muzzy hunters if yu plan to hunt th rut.
this time of the year is as good as it gets for close encounters,
if you find the right location.
there is no persentage of garantee, the ones who do, are either in the right spot at the right time, or are accomplished hunters that have done their homework.
not sure what you ment by your tag remark,
if you ment can you get a hunting license, there as easy as going in and buying it over the counter, no problem.
but if you ment placing a arrow in the pump station, well it depends on how good you are.
and a lot of luck.
get maps of the area you want to hunt and it wouldn't hurt to run out there and check it out for a couple days towards the end of summer.
a little scouting trip can make it or break it you first time out.
nothing worse than heading into an area and not knowing where to start.
good luck.

As a fellow nonresident, I would suggest that you have very little chance to kill an elk your first time out. If you do, it will probably be due to luck. What you do have a very good chance of is having the best time of your life on a hunting trip.

In my opinion, there is nothing more fun than hunting the mountains. You can hunt most places in colorado during bow season with an over-the-counter, either-sex tag. You can get specific information from the Colorado Division of Wildlife website. Hunting areas depend on how tough you are and how far you can walk. The more remote the better. Some great wilderness area hunts (no vehicles allowed) include the Weminuche Wilderness between Durango and Pagosa Springs and the West Elk Wilderness west of Gunnison. Better road access is found in the northwest part of the state in the White River National Forest and BLM land around Craig, Meeker, and Rifle.

I have been hunting Utah for a fews years now, so I have the experience. I just need to do my homework on the different units. Thanks for the advise guys!!!
