NM unit 52???

Anyone ever hunted NM unit 52 for elk? Is a good unit for decent to large bulls, or is it mainly a "shoot the first bull you see" type of unit?

Definetly not known for big bulls but they are there, good elk numbers.

FYI draw odds went in the toliet this past fall, twice as many apps, same number of tags, I am looking for other units to apply for to get better odds, NM went to CC apps this year so odds will be much worse too.

My guess is bow odds will be 20%, rifle & muzz. about the same.

Go to www.newmexicobiggamehunting.com. Look at the 1st photo page and you will see a bull that one of the clients took last fall first muzzle hunt. This is a 325-330 bull. This is a good bull for 52. However, I have seen bulls in the 340-350 range harvested from that unit. Like Don says, there are certainly good numbers. Jim

I’m with you brother, I blasted a huge 6x7 across the state line , west of Trinidad Co
so yeah I concur it’s a good area
