Primos Truth 7 !!

LAST EDITED ON Jan-27-04 AT 05:20PM (MST)[p] I agree with that, I think they do an awsome job. And they seem to always take some great bulls.

They do a great job along with Doyle. Hopefully #7 is better than their last effort. I was some what disappointed in #6

Martin, eventhough #6 wasn't as good as some of there others it's still better then the rest.(others companies) If you want to see good footage, lots of bulls, some misses, and one of the things I like most is, a bunch of guys that are enjoying themselves and the hunt. You don't see that on any other video, at least I haven't.
I'm going to hold out and opt for the DVD. Only a week away. :)

NO doubt. They are very good at what they do. I felt some of the people they had on board for #6 were not "Primos" quality. I will be holding out for the DVD also.

what makes a good elk video

What is it you like most about the Primos videos? The reason I ask is because I'm in the process of producing an hour long Utah elk hunting video. I personally like the quality that the Primos guys produce, the energy during the hunts and the after the harvest celebrations are something I'm trying to bring out in the hunts that were submitted to me...but, and I haven't seen all of thier videos, they don't seem to kill that big of elk?
Unlike the Primos guys, I'm working with home video that was submitted to me, so the quality of the videography is not the best, but the elk are huge! I think the smallest elk on my video is a 320 bull w/ a bow! and the largest is a 420 bull w/a rifle. I guess my question is what makes a good video? Is it big elk, excitement of the hunts, close up shots of animals, kill shots, or what?
I'm about a month from being done with this thing and I'd really like to hear what you guys think. If you have any constructive ideas I'd love to hear them now while I still have time to make changes. When I do finish it I'll be sure to advertise it here on MM so you all will have a chance to see how I did.
Thanks in advance for your responses, Fstop

RE: what makes a good elk video

I like the fact that they are humble, good natured and christians...Will Primos is very believable and genuine and they say all their hunts are on land anyone can access....I just like the respect they show for the animals, the wilderness and (as far as I know) Don't have any wildlife violations in their past...Plus there films are just plain fun to watch...

RE: what makes a good elk video

I am an avid "Truth" fan. I have got all of their elk videos and really enjoy them all. The things that I like most about this video series more than any other that I have seen are as follows:

1. These guys, even though they are "professional hunters", come off as just your average joe in the woods. The really seem to enjoy just being there whether they kill a bull or not.

2. They don't always hold out for the monster bull. They will take an average bull for the area that they are hunting and be just as thrilled with it as they would be if it were a world record.

3. While we don't get to see everything that happens before the camera starts rolling, they really seem to work for the bulls that they take, and in some instances, just luck into the ones they do kill. A great example of this is in the 4th video when they kill a monster 397" gross bull.

4. They all seem truely thankful that they are able to do what they do.

5. They aren't afraid to show themselves making mistakes that every other hunter has made in the field, and they can laugh about it.

6. They put in for their tags just like I do and don't promote paying thousands of dollars for a hunt that all they have to do is show up, nock an arrow, draw their bow and release on a bull that has been scouted for months by someone else.

These are the reasons that I enjoy this video series more than any other on the market.

RE: what makes a good elk video

Moonlight, I agree!!!. They just seem to be a bunch of ethical guys doing it right.....

RE: what makes a good elk video

LAST EDITED ON Jan-29-04 AT 10:35AM (MST)[p]I watched truth 5 and I agree that Will Primos seems to be an ethical and even keel type of guy.

However, its the other guys on the video that ruin it for me. I had to shut the crap off when i saw the chubby guys with southern accents highfiving and jumping around over there exclusive private ranch kills like a bunch of sissy cheerleaders. My friends i showed it to were also very putoff by it.

AND, on #6 above, they dont just put in like everybody else. They paid over $10k for an elk on a ranch up here in MT. How else would you bugle dumb bulls in to 20 yards out in the open and shoot them while your standing up.

RE: what makes a good elk video

I too don't like the high five crap and other stupid celebrations that they do. That's why I just fast forward it to the next hunt, and on the DVD it's even better. I just hit the skip button and off to the next hunt without all the crap.

RE: what makes a good elk video

The thing I like the most is how close they get to the elk. Some you feel like you would be able to reach out and touch.

RE: what makes a good elk video

I enjoy watching them especially in the off season, athough to think that they are hunting public land is wrong. probably 90% plus are on private ranches. This tends to make those that haven't hunted much think that it's easy and that everything they do(Primos) is "the right way". They have killed many animals due to they're proffesion, but I know that there are many of us on this sight who teach could them a few things, especially how to hunt public elk. They aren't dealing with the factors we all have to ie.. hunting on weekends only, the fact that some idiot is driving his four wheeler were he shouldn't and scares the huge bull your sneaking on. Anyway sorry to rant I just hate hunting with someone who is constantly refering to what they saw in the Primos video and taking my advice and experience for not.

I really enjoy the truth series and own all 6. The video created is excellent and so are the story lines. I wonder what happened to some of the individuals in the earlier videos? I really like Brad Farris. It seemed like they threw in a bunch of slack jaws recently to feel the void. They hunt numerous private ranches. Why have they not filmed a hunt in Idaho? And what is the real story behind Alonzo and his buddy? Where did they come from and why do they not get to hunt? I hope they continue to produce and raise the bar for hunting videos. As a side note, what happened to the Realtree series of monster bulls? After 2 they were done. Anyone know? I really enjoy hunting videos as I have 38 in my collection.

7 is not too bad, I rate it a "dbl lunger", not a heart shot. They are the best out there. I understand their need to hunt pvt ranches in order to produce a video. I have no problem with that and a friend of mine is in all their elk videos.
However, that said, In 20 years of hunting and calling elk in to 10-20 yards, It has been a LONG time since I could just stand next to a tree and have that bull come in and just stand there while I shot him.
I sure doesn't happen like that anymore, for me anyway.

Thanks for the replies, Moonlight's response was just what I've been looking for. I'm still trying to figure out Keith's Christian comment? But, hey thanks for the response and I can't wait to have some feedback when we finally finish this thing. I don't think many of you will be disapointed. We have bulls so close you'll think they are coming right into your livingroom. 23 hunts with 13 kill shots with 3 new state records including the kill shot on the new state record typical taken in 03, two more 2003 bulls with an average gross score of 418, five fight scenes, narrated by Doug Miller, and one of the best muzzleloader kill shots I've ever seen (Paul Fallon's potential 407 bull). Most of you will recognize some of the bulls in the video because half of them were submitted by MM users. The video is compiled entirely from hunters who just wanted to show their success and it just so happened that I have the ability and the contacts to make it happen. I can honestly say it hasn't been easy and I haven't seen my family for the past four months but I can't wait. If any of you live in SLC,I'd be willing to give some of you a sneak peak before I mass duplicate it in exchange for some constructive critisizm. If you are interested you can leave me a private message and I'll get back with you. Thanks, Fstop

Fstop, Thats a great Idea for a video. I dont buy many hunting videos these days, but yours sounds like one I would enjoy. Everybody packs a video camera these days and you just know there's some amazing stuff being caught on tape. Looking forward to it.

Martin,
According to Jim Horn of the Primos Pro Staff, Alonzo lives and guides on one of the ranches that Team Primos hunts. He was actually born on the ranch. So that is why you never see him hunting. I found that info in the Primos Website. They have hunting forums similar to MM. Some Primos Pro Staff members frequently answer questions for hunters on that site.
