MY FATHER IN-LAW LVES IN THE SNOWFLAKE AREA AND HAS INVITED US DOWN FOR A ELK HUNT. I BELIEVE ARIZONA WORKS OFF OF PREFRENCE POINTS. WHAT KIND OF TIME FRAME IS IT GONNA TAKE TO DRAW ANYTHING IN THESE UNITS? ARE THEY GOOD UNITS? NOT AFTER RECORD BOOK STUFF AND EVEN A COW HUNT MIGHT DO JUST TO START OUT AND GET A FEEL FOR THE AREA. ANY INFO IS APREACIATED, THANKS!

Mule, those are excellent units I believe 3C had bull over 400 taken out of it this year. Look through the elk posts and you should find it. As for getting the tag thats all about luck!!! I don't think bonus points make any difference. Drawing a cow tag would be easier, but no elk tag in Arizona is a slam dunk to draw. Good Luck.

We use bonus points here in AZ. The bonus points do make a difference. I don't know why someone would make a comment like that. 3a & 3c is a combined unit hunt which is pretty dang hard to draw a bull tag. For archery you'll probly be waiting several years. (I've gone six straight with no tag). I'm not too sure about the late rifle bull. Its still probly hard to get a tag. But look into the cow hunts. They will have a much higher draw percentage. I'm betting if you put in for archery cow you could be almost guaranteed a tag.(first choice that is) If I were you I would put in for a archery bull tag first choice then a cow tag second. Either archery or rifle. Good Luck.

Coues, I shouldn't say they don't work I just don't have any faith in them. My father in law went 13 years before drawing a tag and he only put in for late rifle bull in mediocre units. Then I know people who have been drawn for archery bull tags 3 years in a row. I myself have drawn 3 archery bull tags in 6 years. If you have 6 points you get that tag this year right I hope so. I just don't have faith in theer system. Its all about getting your number pulled. Good luck this year.

Just so you know, that is some of the best hunting areas for Elk that there is. PERIOD

I got drawn, on my first try, for elk, in 2b (I think). The area west of unit #1, whatever the unit # is. For the late September hunt (during the rut). I have not been drawn since then, for about 2-3 tires since then. (I no longer live in God's Country, AZ).

THANKS FOR THE INPUT GUYS! I KINDA GOT THE IDEA AFTER LOOKING AT AZ'S GAME AND FISH PAGE AND LOOKING AT DRAW SUCCESS RATES. LOOKS LIKE THAT AREA IS A TOUGH ONE! OUR GROUP IS KEEPING ALL OPTIONS OPEN, AND MAY CONSIDER A HUNT WITH AN EAISER CHANCE FOR A TAG. WERE NOT LOOKING FOR THE BIGGEST BULLS IN THE WEST, JUST SOME TO GET US OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT. WE JUST LOOKED INTO THE AREA CAUSE WE HAD A CONNECTION. IT'S LOOKING LIKE COLORADO MAY BE WHERE WE GO, ANY POINTERS ON THAT STATE WOULD BE GREAT! LATER!
