Wyoming Elk

I'm planning on applying for a Wyoming tag again this year and just wondered if any of you have hunted in the Snowy Range or Elk Mountain area or around the Shirley basin. If so I'd like to hear about your experience and what the bull success ratio is in those areas. Any info would be wonderful.

yep, i'm afraid he's right. could probably get leftover cow tags in july, but that gonna be about it. good news is that theres almost always left over cow tags available for the snowies.

I did send my application in guys no worries! Happen to know how the elk hunting is in those areas? If possible I've also done quite a bit of antelope hunting in units 46 and 48 but its been 7 years since I've been able to draw a tag so does anyone know if the numbers of antelope have held up?

elk hunting in the snowies is ok. there are lots of elk up there, but itt is one of the more pressured areas, and its tough to get away from ther hunters in many areas due to high road density. haven't hunted much around elk mountain, but i do hunt kennaday peak from time to time(thats kinda between elk mountain and the range.)

Sam thanks for the info. Do you happen to know anyone who has elk hunted around the Shirley's, I'm just curious to know if many quality bulls come out of that area or if its mostly smaller bulls. Have you ever hunted behind wagon hound ponds, I think its area 11 but not sure. I know a couple of guys that hunt it and they have taken some big ones out of there but say that its hard to draw a bull tag for that area.

11 does hold some good bulls, but it is tough to draw for them. i dont know anyone personally that hunts the shirleys, but there are big bulls taken off laramie peak just south of there every year, so there may well be some good bulls in the basin. i've got a buddy at work i might be able to get shirly basin info from, i'll ask him tomorrow if i remember.

Sam thanks again. Do you happen to know anyone who lives in Hanna, I had some relatives there and used to do a lot of hunting and fishing around that area.

i have hunted deer north of hanna.last time i was up there an heir of sam walton was buying up all the land she could.she brought the ranch where we hunted. that was the vivan ranch up north.we havent been back .might try deer there again.been hunting elk in 61-62-63 areas.but we did see some nice elk the last time we were up there.
