Elk City, Idaho

Planning on a mid-September archery hunt in the Elk City,Idaho area. Me and a buddy will be hunting with his relatives that live out there. Anyone hunt this area the last couple of years? How are the elk numbers? This will be my first time going after elk with a bow, so I am really pumped.

I haven't hunted that area but it should be a good hunt for you if his relatives have some experience with archery hunting and know were the elk are.

hey WV. I happen to live in Elk City and do a fair amount of bow hunting. I got a 6X7 last year with my bow. I also do well on deer and bear as well. The hunting can be good in spots, but over all you better set your standards low. it can be warm and the bulls may not be active. You will have to get away from the roads to have good luck, but you might hear some from the roads. expect other hunters in the area as well. I hunt about 16 miles behind a gate and still see a few guys, but not too bad. I HAVE called in bulls on the roads, but I would not expect it too happen. If you have access to horses that will help, but if not I would suggest a mountain bike.
