Wow I just read somthing about Wyoming Fish & Game has found 250 dead elk south of Rawlins. What is up with that they dont have any Idea what the cause is but two days ago they said there was only 80, looks like there dropping like flies there.

Ps I guess there are other elk being found that are alive but cant move, All the elk look healthy but cant move.

Anyone see or hear about this?

Yes Have read and heard first hand about this. Will keep you posted when I hear more. My brother in law is going to school in Laramie and one of his friends is helping with some of the testing that is going on.

Check the WF&G site as I saw something on there this morning. Seems like it was like "pink eye" or words simular to that.

RE: 250 dead elk in Wyoming

A Denver TV station covered this. They stated that CWD and West Nile have been ruled out. They also claimed that a similar thing happened to antelope in that area about 20 years ago.

RE: 250 dead elk in Wyoming

Mother Nature has a wierd sense of humor sometimes if something like this cant be attributed to a single source you gotta chock it up to "one of the things". There isn't an over population in the area is there ?

The antelope that they were talking about died of starvation. And it was in 1983. That was caused by an over population. As for the elk my friend works in the lab, and they also might think it is a plant, but not something like poisonous dumping. I also live in the area and don't think anyone would be dumb enough to dump toxins where they would be easily detected.

I live in Rawlins and of today the toll is up to 280 head. Yesterday the game & fish captured four elk that were alive but could not stand up,they were taken to Wyoming state veterinary lab in Laramie. Each elk is receiving a slightly diffiernt treatment. No results were evident in the first 24 hours of treatment. I will update when I hear more.

UPDATE- The game & fish have tested the four suspicious water sources and all were found to be safe. They now think it could be a "primary muscle lesion that causes them to go down" They say sever stress or long distance running can affect an animal's muscles. Not ruled out but unlikely are poisons 1080. Game & fish don't know what would have harassed the elk the make them run for that long of a period. I due know that about a month ago the were a group of wolves just west of town, a rancher is in trouble for shooting one of the wolves
