Hey--

If anyone draws WY unit 106 for elk, south of Evanston, let me know. We have some elk we need to have thined out.

Todd

What do you mean, "we have some elk that need to be thinned out." Are you talking about a cow elk hunt? or is this a guided hunt on private land? Just curious, I live in the area and use to hunt there a lot. Inquiring minds want to know.

Paul,

Thin out--reduce population numbers--harvest more than have been harvested in the past. Cow, bull what ever kind of tag you have. Guided/unguided on private land. I sent you an email if this doesn't fill your inquiring mind :)

Thanks

Hey Todd,
My Father Brother and myself are thinking of putting in for 106. Is the public land typically give us any good chances of seeing elk? Looks like season would start Nov 15. Not sure if they would be up high that late still
Appreciate any thing

Cody

Many of those elk are on private in November but in January they are accessible on public. Always a few come off Deseret ranch and wander onto BLM.

Yea that’s what I’m hearing that the private land seems to hold more of them. Beautiful country, but not sure if it’s worth the chance since public land is pretty minimal
Thanks for the post!

My group has drawn 3 cow tags for 106 this year do you know anywhere like what you posted here that would be available for cow hunting this year? I know this was a long time ago but in the proper zone

Unit 106 isn’t a unit to get an elk tag in unless you have some access already set up. Mostly private. Really hard for non-residents to be successful because the few guys that do allow access, allow it in late December and January and the elk are hit and miss. If you are a local you can come out on a moments notice when the elk are present. In you are a NR and have to schedule a hunt time it can be very difficult. Also during the time in January that you can get access, can be some nasty weather with waste high snow and terrible roads.
