Hunting the Mountains of North Carolina and Regions West

Would appreciate any information on Public land in Colorado to Elk hunt on and where to get to Maps for this area-

I keep hearing of the great hunting there is in Colorado
I am planning on trying it this year- I have been told my best bet is to get an over the counter tag!

any information will appreciated-

thanks in advance

Me and 3 buddies hunted unit 18 last year with www.samuelsonoutfitters.com
They provide an excellent drop camp in a roadless 88,000 acre Medicine Bow Routt National forest. They pack you in on horse and you hunt on your own. Tags are over the counter. This area is loaded with elk. Now mind you they are not giant elk but you could expect a 250 or better bull. We rebooked for this year. We had a fabulous time. The outfitter is top notch and salt of the earth. As far as maps go I bought the DeLorme software for topo maps from Cabellas. But you can go to http://wildlife.state.co.us/ and you can get information on maps for any unit in Colorado.
This ia a 7 day ordeal. One day to pack you in, five days of hunting and a day to pack you out. On one occation did we see another hunter. It is very remote and you can only access it by foot or horse. Great Time.
