I am going to put in for archery here in new mexico, if I dont draw I would like to buy an over the counter archery tag for colorado. I dont know the units all that well so suggestions on good units is what I am looking for. I have the gear to pack in if I need to and rough terrian doesnt bother me. A long as there is a decent amount of elk and good public land acces I would be happy.

There are a lot of OTC archery units in CO. In fact there is a tag that will let you hunt all units that are not drawing only. There are also unit(s) that are drawing but have lots of leftover licenses (they might as well be OTC) that you can get in August at the leftover license sale. Do you have a preference on what part of the state you want to hunt in? I get archery tag for units 7,8,9,19,191. It is a drawing tag that I can hunt all 5 units. There are a lot of leftovers licenses for this tag. They are in Northern CO. and dont have the best elk numbers but I finally managed to stick an arrow in 1 last year.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-15-04 AT 11:34PM (MST)[p]No I have not done any hunting that way. DeerKing would be the 1 to talk to about that part of the state. I am more familiar with northern CO.

the top and middle tears in the colorado have 70 percent of all the elk found in colorado,
if you look at the states stats.
but most are not accessable thru the over the counter tags.
you must draw and they only allow a limited no. of tags.
this is where points come in to play....
