I need to find out a unit I can draw for archery elk with 7 to 8 points that I would have a realistic chance at harvesting a 350 or bigger. I have seven points this year and just thought somebody from ARIZONA could let me know some of the units that I could draw in near future with this many points. This would be for non-res. I cant seem to find any odds anywhere.
THANKS

Warbirdum, with that many points you need to hold out for 8,9 or 10 !! You'll pull a tag in the next couple years. Make sure you apply by yourself! Unit 9 as your first choice and 8 or 10 second. Unit 1 and 27 are also very good, but the bulls can be hard to judge in the thick timber. TR

unit 27 south archery cow hunt is a sure draw, with no points. the thing about bonus points in Az., is all it does is improves your odds. doesn't guarantee a dern thing. you can be maxed out for years and still not get drawn. some folks are lucky and get drawn pretty regular. others can't get a permit for nothin'.

Warbirdum, what ever you do, DON"T BLOW YOUR POINTS ON A COW TAG!!!!!!!!!! If you just want to hunt elk, there are some great over the counter tags in other states. Hang in with the AZ draw and when you finally pull a tag it will be a great hunt, worth waiting for! Todd

The post about not choosing unit 9 during the rut is VERY correct. Two years ago I was drawn for unit 9 and every big bull that I saw had weak backs (points 5 and 6) I ended up shooting a 373 1/4 gross and 366 1/8 net bull. The bull that I shot with plenty of water would have scored in the very high 300's possible touching 400. I talked to the biologist for that area and he stated that he only saw a few 390 + and one 400+ bull all season. The 400+ bull came out of the indian res next door. So be careful.

Trying to draw units 10, 9, 8 are very difficult. If you want to hunt this year unit 7 is good. There are places that are diffucult to get into and tough terrain. Most people will not go into those areas and that is were the bigger bulls are at.

Thanks for everyones inputs. I harvested a 7x6 349 gross p&y bull in NEW MEXICO 15 A back in 93. I cant wait to have another shot at bowhunting huge bulls again. I know there is never a gauranteed hunt but I just want the chance at another big bull. Again thanks for everyones advice and I have been putting in for units 9 and 8. I just needed to know of an easier unit to draw that would have some nice bulls and I would have a fairly good chance to harvest a nice bull again some year.

AGAIN THANKS FOR THE KOWLEDGE.
