I'm heading to Co this year for the first time archery season and was wanting to find unit/wilderness area that has no ATV use if there is one.I have a handful of units picked out as choices that I've researched over the last couple of months. In the regulations i have only found that you can get a permit for one but it really does not say wheather thay can be used everywhere or just limited areas. Here at home most state owned property prohibits the use but some national owned forest they are legal.

Thanks for any info,
Jeff

I think that the only places where it is clear they are banned is in wilderness areas (Flat Tops wilderness, Wimenuche, Maroon Bells, and West Elk to name a few). There are many other roadless areas that area NOT supposed to have ATV travel, but there are people who do take them off road where they are supposed to. Best soruce of info would be the Colorado DOW agents for the units you pick out. After studying maps of the area you want to go, call them and ask about certain drainages/mountains as to whether you can get away for the ATVs.

Rennikselum,

ATVs are not allowed in any of the Wilderness areas of Colorado. If the regulations say that the permit is valid only for one GMU then that is all it is valid for. There are other wilderness areas that can be hunted under the statewide tag.

Also some areas close some trails and roads for atv use during the hunt starting in August through the hunting season. Check with the forest service and BLM for the areas you are going.
