I have a hunting buddy who has 3 or 4 pre pts for elk and he's thinking about using them for a Statewide Bull License. I told him I hate to see him waste them on that and that he should try to use them for a better quality unit. He said he wouldn't know where to hunt if he did draw a better unit so he just as well use them. Appreciate anyone's willingness to help in this manner. I was planning on going with him just to help out, were nonresidents. Thanks in advance. Can send me a private email if you wish.

3-4 points are not going to get him into a primo unit, but they might help get into a unit with less pressure. The Co DNR wbsite lists the drawing stats and will tell you how many points it took to get a permit in a specific area last year---

I'm famaliar what units he can get in to, its not knowing public accesses, and the amount of public ground available to hunt these units.

Help us out here, which units are you thinking about? If you narrowed it down a bit someone could give you a good startin point.

Many areas you can draw with the state wide tag are better than the limited areas

LAST EDITED ON Mar-31-04 AT 11:50AM (MST)[p]Also, with what weapon? I assume muzzleloader, since you said statedwide tag, but what seasons are accecptable? And does he have 3 or 4 points?

A little more detail on this up in the air situation. A relative of mine were discussing our elk hunt plan this year . I have 0 pre pts and was going to apply for a statewide bull muzzle license. He proposed we apply as a group , himself having 3pts, maybe 4 which he would lose if i was to draw.

I thought he should apply for a better unit and i would not draw and just help him out with his hunt.

We hunted unit 231 last year muzzle , got a cow, so we know that area somewhat.

But the areas that take 3 or 4 pts we know nothing . If anyone has had success in one of these units and would like to share some info, thanks!

Hes otta state until next monday so we''ll have to make some quick decisions when he gets back Monday.

BIGTINES,
glad to see you didn't drop off the face of the earth.
better look at your requirements for hunting together.
if you use his Numbers you group leader, and say he gets drawn and then your in also
but they will use your points as the kicker to see if you get in or qualifie for that area they use whom ever has the least amount of points in the group to make the call on the area.
with 0 points hes doomed to knot drawing into any area.
and you have no chanch at pulling a muzzy tag with 0 points
look at the last years draw odd, nota single person non-res, pulled a tag with 0 points.
I applied for first season rifle, and hunting or appling for 74.
hope you have a good year.

Ssorry Dan,
didn't see your post above mine.
I hope your son, if that whom jour talking about gets his draw.
you just going along to film and call?

As stated by elkmaster, if you go in as a group, the preference point for the group will be the person with the least points. Therefore your group will have 0 points and you will NOT be drawn for a muzzleloader statewide tag. Only 70% of nonresidents with 1 point got picked last year.

Well, that changes the plan.

Does anyone have anything to share on these units for muzzle?

4,40,48,67,69,481, my hunting buddy can draw these units for a bull and if i want to do more than just help him i can probably draw a cow muzzle for these areas.

ps, again you cam email me if you dont want to broadcast it over this forum

If you did good in 231 go back to it! Were you around Sherrif reservoir? I know that area ok. sorry dont know much about the other units you listed. Next week apps are due!

I hunted muzzleloader in area 48 2 years ago. Had a great time and saw plenty of elk and deer alike. Your right in the rut and the bulls were still bugling fairly well. All the game was above tree line so get in shape. E-mail me if you want more info.
