I sure hope some of you guys that applied for LE elk this year draw a tag!! Unreal opportunity.....

I would like to know more about the BUll killed i Juab if anyone know's anything?

DoubleD- I think it is a bull off the West Desert Anybull unit. Killed by a Youth hunter on the general hunt when the area was opened to general season last year. Grossed over 380. The area where the bull was killed has now been converted back to a LTD Entry unit, I beleive the Oak Creek North.

One thing about it, there are big bulls on every unit. Too many big bulls on many units, ie the Pahvant, SW Des, San Juan, etc.

Juab bull was harvested by a gal named Andrea McPherson and was scored by official B&C scorer Rusty Hall (Trophy Hunter mag. owner) she made someone real proud!!

I believe that if was not guided. I think they say it was just him and his buddies in the video raging bulls.
DeadI

I think it was none other than MR. Doyle Moss
up Hobble CK. with sportsman tag.
Does anyone know for sure??

The nontypical was doyle and cronies in dec. 2002, three feet of snow etc. Not a very good story on the mishaps of this bull and the hunt. Doyle still has this rack as of the middle of march. The hunter still hasn't paid up to doyle so the story continues.

The Typical was average joe and buddies, Sept opening day limited entry manti 2003. Nice story.

If that's the same bull that was in Trophy Hunter magazine I thought I read that there wasn't a charge for him guiding that guy. I haven't looked at the article in quit a while but I'm pretty sure that in the artilce the guy talked about not being able to afford a guide and that he was going to do it on his own. And DM said that he would do it for nothing so that he could video it. So I don't understand why he would still have the rack. I could be completely wrong but if it is the same bull I think that is the story.

AZ I think your right that how I read it too. So why would Doyle still have the horns

Didn't the new state record non-typical come of of the Southwest Desert unit in 2003? A guy brought one in to get it scored at the taxidermy shop where I had taken my bull, and it gross scored in the 440's. It was a huge 5X8 if I remember right. I seen Cass had a picture of the Eastman's magazine cover on this forum a couple of months ago.
I just looked and found the magazine. It is the Dec03/Jan04 Eastman's. The hunter was Russ Young from Illinois, and he was guided by Jason Carter. The article says it was officially scored at 434 4/8 gross. Dang BIG!!

The Non-typical off of SW desert was the highest scoring gross bull ever out of utah but not the net. Lots of deductions on an 8x5.
I heard it from doyle's mouth at the SFW banquet that he was keeping the rack at his house because the guy still owed him some money. I also was under the impression that he didn't charge the guy but after hearing it out of his mouth the guy owes him for something.

Wasn't a 390's bull taken out San Juan last year and a couple of high 380's bulls taken during ML or rifle season too. Maybe Blanding Boy or Black Predator can give some insight on this since this is a area they are very knowledgable in, they seem to know most of the big bulls around their home area pretty good.

There was a 410s bull taken on the archery hunt last year off the San Juan. There are big bulls being killed off every LTD unit in the state.

I haven't seen anything in P&Y or B&C about a San Juan 400+ bull.....yet.
The current issue of the P&Y, Spring 2004, has a

370 3/8 bull out of Millard Co.

I could look in the Winter issues of P&Y and B&C if ya want....

The bull had a double main beam on one side with seperate pedicles. That makes it a nonqualifier for any special award.

Watch for the new state record (non-typical) Doyle will have it on screaming bulls 3,I thought it would be out for the expo but I didn't see it and Doyle wasn't there when I was. The Guy who shot the bull in Utah County was a meat-head,but I'll bet it's going to be an awesome video. Some Pahvant Bulls One of my father in laws is a nice 390 typical.

Pleasedear you would have to ask Travis or Todd Black what bulls came out the Blues area(san Juan)During deer ML season the talk around all the camps was about a huge Bull taken just a few day before on the mountain, saw one picture of this bull and was told it score 396 and change. Later I heard of 2 more big bulls that was taken out of that area too,one by resident and one NR.

Was it 396 3/8 gross, 387 3/8 net from David Martin? There are some pics in the new Trophy Hunter with that one, one at 417 7/8 gross, 404 4/8 net, and one more at 418 2/8 gross, 406 3/8 net. Not bad for another drought year.

They killed 4 new state records this year that i know of. New state record archery bull with a kicker off his sword scored something like 396 gross and 388 net. New state record muzzleoader over by delta that was close to 400 (another with a muzz. that would have blew that one away but was broken on his beam). New typical state record shot by Brian Gilson that was like 415 gross and 402 net. New non-typical state record that lasted for three days and then got beat again. As far as i know there were more 400 class bulls shot in utah last year than any other state. Says something about utah dosent it.

If I can only pull a tag. There are more out there were all those awesome bulls came from.
DM does still have the sportsmans tag elk from 02. He paid the taxedermy bill to hurry it along so he could show it in the ISE show that spring and if he still has the mount it is because the hunter has not paid for it yet.

FYI A run down of the units where these bulls were killed.
412 Utah Co.--Wasatch, 2002. #1 nontypical
406 3/8 Beaver Co.--Beaver, 2003. #2 nontypical
402 4/8 Emery Co.-- Manti, 2003. #1 typical
396 7/8 Garfield Co.--Mt. Dutton, 2003. Typical
394 2/8 Utah Co.--Wasatch, 2003. typical
387 3/8 Garfield Co.--Beaver, 2003. #1 nontypical muzzleloader
385 3/8 Garfield Co.--Plateau boulder 2003. typical
382 5/8 Rich Co.--South Cache. 2003 typical
382 2/8 Rich Co.--?? 2002. typical
378 Piute Co.--Monroe 2003. typical
376 2/8 Juab Co.--Youth hunt, Oak Creek North general hunt. 2003 typical

Threelemonbob,
The nontypical record was killed in 2002 just took them a while to enter it. #2 was killed in 2003 not 3 days later. #3 was shot in 2003 also.
The record muzzleloader nontypical bull was killed off the Beaver. Or are you talking about a typical bull? By Delta??
The other muzzleloader bull your referring to was killed off the Dutton.

Who says that the Pahvant is king???

The pavant has a lot of big bulls there but thats no different than the dutton or elk ridge (which has some great bulls lately) the manti, even the boulders and many other areas in the state. I thought that the new nontypical state record muzz. bull was taken by delta but i could be wrong. I saw 2 370 class bulls last year in my unit and there was a monster taken off of it . Utah is getting to be the place to go for big bulls hopefully ill draw sometime soon.
