BuckSnort:

That third picture looks like a nice California buck. Havn't seen that picture yet, you been holding out on us? :) Thanks for the pictures.

BOHNTR,

Yeah it's a good one I just wish the camera would have been a little lower so I could see his whole rack. This buck lived on private property but my bro had permission to hunt him.He couldn't ever find him in the daylight so he ended up with a forky.

man i love to see photo's like those. what's on the left ear of that deer, are those ticks ????? are there alot of them around where you hunt. none of the desert MULE DEER we have ever taken in our unit have ever had 1 tick, is that normal ????? keep up the photo's, i just got a camcorder that i used the 1st time on my elk hunt. i got footage of alot of different animals, but even with the software i can't figure out how to get still photo's off the video to post.

Michael,

Yes those are ticks,we have alot of them in the area. Some of the deer we kill have been covered with ticks while others had none. Some years are worse than others,I guess it probably depends on how much moisture we have had, which may be why you don't have them on your desert deer.

I am just learning how to get still photo's off of our video's.One thing I found is that the quality of the picture is not good unless you have one of the newer camera's that will take still photo's also.

i also have found out that the photos are a little off, mine seem grainy, i got a sony video hi8 handycam 560x digital zoom, optical 20 whatever. ha ha ha, thats just what it says on the side anyway. i have a cd rom software disc and i loaded the program, and i played my november MULE DEER tape trying to get a still photo to put online. i wanted to show my buck off, i did'nt get any regular photo's until i was home on the concrete driveway, and i would have liked to post a desert scene. i can edit the photo till it looks great, but i can't seem to send it anywhere. so i'm still working on it, but i think i will just use the driveway photo for now. i'm sure the moisture thing is what the difference is, you know the southern desert can't compete with any wet places in the whole world. i can't remember any deer i've even seen taken, even by another hunter when i would hang out at the g&f check stations looking at different deer being brought in that had even 1 tick. there were a couple of deer we got that had some strange lumps under the skin, on the spine and upper back, but we never really looked into what they were. they were black bumps that you could see/touch, all under the hide, with no openings, bleeding, pus, etc..... but when skinning them out they were just flat on the inner hides. upon them getting back from the tannery, they are there but not lumps anymore, just flat black "spots" on the hides. no-one had ever seen them before, so i guess it was a freak thing.
