Assuming the optics quality is the same, the exit pupil is the same, would it be worth it to lug around 1.5 more pounds if it meant going from 15x to 20x binoculars?

No. As a matter of fact I wouldn't go higher then 12x...10x is plenty in a bino.. IMHO. Drop, as you get older reducing WEIGHT in your equipment becomes a priority....

no, 15 is enough, right now i carry 12x and they do fine, they are a lil tought to spot small antlers on a coues at 1,000 yards or so but that is why we have 15x60 docters and a spotting scope

I think 15 power is enough--one year I lugged some 20 x 80's around on a hunt--what a pain--now I use the 15x56 Swarvoski's and they're perfect--chris

I have Swarovski 15x56's and absolutely love them. I am used to the extra weight but it is more than worth it by having the extra magnification. I can keep the 15's really steady but anything over that is to hard for me to keep steady and I need a tripod.

I personally think 15x's are enough for most of what you need unless you are sheep hunting and then a spotter would be necessary..........15x's on a tripod will allow you to see and stalk closer to most anything but 20's wouldnt give me any more advantage considering the weight. I glass out to a couple miles with the 15x's now here in AZ. I have a couple friends who have 30x but the weight is the downside and they continually complain about it........

Thanks for the responses. I won't worry about the 20x80s then. Thanks.
