My brother recently drew a monroe archery tag and i was wondering if anyone has any helpful info about the area. or if anyone has hunted it recently.

I've hunted Archery Deer on monroe for the past 10 straight years, North, south, east, west. I know that mountain like the back of my hand, I will give you what help I can, but it will be hard for you to find any help from people who know what kind of bulls are on that mountain.
The last lady I helped took a beautiful bull a few years back up at the top of rock canyon.

LAST EDITED ON May-12-04 AT 09:56PM (MST)[p]I drew a Monroe LE Archery permit last year. It was great! I live in the area and so I spent every free minute up on the mountain. The bulls were plentiful and there were a good number of good bulls, and quite a few great bulls. It will not be hard to locate some good animals. The hard part is to hold off and not shoot just a nice bull. You can count on getting within shot range of many bulls during the hunt. I have probably already visited with you but let me know any other questions..

Hey Rambo,
I am not the one who has the tag. It is Reflex_Shooters brother. I drew that tag last year and you are right, it was a great hunt. I held out until the last evening and then almost held out too long. Passed up a bunch of good shots the last night and then ended up harvesting the last 15 minutes of the day. I also have some family with ground over on the east side, right near Indian Peaks..
take care..

Reflex...where are you from? I also have a Monroe Archery tag...we are going down June July and August to scout!...maybe we could hook up.

I drew an archery tag in 2000 on the Monroe and had an excelent hunt. Like everyone else has meantion don't get in a hurry and shot the first decent bull the precents a shot. It you put in the time and get to know the unit you will see that a 320 bull is not hard to find on the unit. The hard part is passing them up waiting for that 350 bull to come out and play. I know that I would have shot several 320 bulls if I would not have had my uncle there with me. He has a cabin on the Monroe and realy knows what the unit has to over.

I did all of my scouting and hunting around the Mannings Meadow Res., Uper Box creek Res., Rock Springs, and Monroe Meadows. Durring the summber and the first part of the hunt I was finding more bulls up arround the Monroe Meadows area. You might have a little problem hunting this area because of all the private land. Mid way through the hunt it seemed like the bulls knew where the cows were and started to move down arrond the Mannings meadow and upper Box Creek area.

If you're buddy is not able to take the whole hunt of I would recomend taking the last part of the hunt off instead of the first part. By the end of the hunt the bulls are starting to talk and are alitte easier to call in and a lot eaier to locate.

Good luck. I know that you will have the time of your life.

Pretty risky there Rick, you dare devil.

It should not be hard to find elk there, since there are good numbers & generous access, also many yahoo's driving around trying to call in elk,

Reflex, how many points did your brother draw with ?

Good scouting will help you gain an honest appraisal of the size of elk you will see, they already are sporting a lot of bone, don't hold out for a 360 bull or you may be sadly disappointed.

Hey B_F_E, I wasn't being a daredevil, just had a standard and was going to stick to it. I had pretty much decided I was going without until the ol' boy finally come off the hill to find his girls.
I was just damn lucky!
