Colorado elk

My son and I put in for unit 48 muzzleloader and as a second choice Unit 48 archery for elk and we just have enough points to possible draw but!!!! If we don't we want to archery hunt with an over the counter tag. I would like to hunt in the western part of the state but have no experience with any areas. Is there areas that I should be looking that might hold bulls? Any ideas? Mickeyelk
