Going into the Middle Fork for an elk hunt this fall and have a tentative plan, but any insight or pointers would be appreciated.

New guy here - like this site.

John,

Welcome to Monster Muleys. I've spent the last 3 years hunting in the middlefork in unit #27. Best of luck to you. We took 6 bulls & 2 bears in that time period...a couple of them nice. By no means trophy but there are some big ones back in there. I saw one in a cooler at the meat processor in Challis and I dropped my coffee cup.
Hope you guys do well.

Cheers

Roadtrip,
Thanks for the welcome. I initially was planning to go into Unit 26, but was persuaded out of it.

I have one rookie question - when I got my Middle Fork Permit, the lady asked me which unit, but the permit lists all three areas of the Middle Fork. Am I limited to the unit I told her, or can I hunt any of the three on the Middle Fork license?

You may hunt all 3 units on that tag. The Middlefork is a huge area and I have 2 suggestions. Don't over look the deep dark holes and stay away from the wolves. We took a couple of nice ones right at dark in the swamp/bogs created by all of the blow down in the bottoms. When we saw wolves, we didn't see elk.

Best of Luck,
Roadtrip

Thanks for the tip on the dark holes, and the wolves. Hopefully the wolves aren't were I'm going, but if they are I'll just keep moving and hunting.
