LAST EDITED ON Jun-14-04 AT 11:25PM (MST)[p]There has been so much talk on quality and all, but now let's hear what the minimum size & score of a bull you would consider taking on a premium LE elk unit?

during the archery hunt?
during the Rifle hunt?
& during the Muzzleloader hunt?

A bad day hunting is better than a Good Day at Work!!

If I get drawn for my Archery tag in AZ, we will be looking for a 400 class bull we saw last year. But my minimum would be 360 until the last couple of days. I put in for good units and we know them well, so I feel confident we could stick a good one

If i draw the tag I put in for a good 300 class bull would be awesome. The average for the area is probably around 300-320, so something in that area would be great. If its general archery for me then any bull is in danger and maybe a cow in the last couple days.

I would have to say that If I ever draw for the tag In Utah I wouldn't really have a mimimum score but just size. If I saw a monster 5 point with mass from Hell and 60 inch beams I would have to take him. Score isn't everything.

I will be on the 3rd rifle hunt on the Jicarilla this year. I am considering using the muzzleloader again. The bulls will be winding down as far as bugling goes, and they will have been hunted for a month. They killed a lot of 320-335 bulls last year, but the antler size was up. I guess I will try to find a good 6x6 in the 320+ range the first couple of days. Any 300+ bull after that will be what I am looking for. I will again be trying to film the hunt, so if a good looking 6x6 bull a bit smaller comes in and puts on a show, I'll probably take him. The score doesn't mean a lot to me on this hunt. There are no true monsters there, so any good solid mature 6x6 will fit the bill.

Here in Idaho the hunt i put in for is an any weapon hunt. If i draw i will take the first five days archery, five muzzle, and the remainder of the season rifle. In this particular unit i wouldn't take anything under 360 until the last few day's.

I happened to draw out a LE Elk tag on a great unit here in Utah......in fact the new State Record Typical came off the unit last year......
with that being said, I am setting a goal of a 370 bull or better for the first week, and 350 or better for the second week. If i havent found anything, than I would shoot a 330-340 bull on the last day or two of the hunt.

WAY TO GO TUFF

I THINK I KNOW THE AREA YOUR TALKING ABOUT!!!

I'M GLAD TO KNOW YOU'RE NOT GOING TO WASTE YOUR TAG ON A RAGHORN LIKE ALOT OF THE HUNTERS WOULD,I MIGHT BE WRONG BUT WHY WOULD ANYBODY BOOM A RAGHORN BULL IN A LE AREA???

GOOD LUCK AND HANG IN THERE,LET SOMEBODY ELSE SHOOT THEM RAGHORN BULLS AND HOPEFULLY THEM WILL BE HUNTERS OUT OF YOUR WAY FOR THE REST OF YOUR HUNT!!!

THE ONLY bobcat GLAD TO SEE SOMEBODY HUNTING A QUALITY AREA FOR QUALITY BULLS!!!(ISN'T THAT THE WAY IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE???)

If it is brown it is down!!!! lol J/K

I would like to say 350 but here in the real world 300 would probally do.

FEAR NOT FOR I AM WITH YOU! Walk soft and carry a 300 RUM,

Kicker, your catching on,
As to your question Rick,
I like points, I would take a lesser scoring bull that had more points, similar to Bessy, I have my weird quarks,
# of points being one of them.

YOU CALL ME WIERD???

HELL, I'VE BEEN CALLED ALOT WORSE THAN WIERD!!!

CALL ME ANYTHING YOU WANT BUT QUALITY IS BY FAR BETTER THAN PI$$ POOR QUANTITY!!!

DO YOUR BEST AND BE HAPPY WITH WHAT YOU END UP WITH,THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES WHEN I'VE DONE MY BEST AND KICKED MYSELF LATER FOR TURNING BIGGER LOOSE THAN WHAT I ENDED UP WITH AND SOMETIMES WHAT I ENDED UP WITH WAS NOTHING,IT'S CALLED HUNTING,KINDA LIKE PLAYING A GAME,SOMEBODY'S GOT TO LOSE,SOMEBODY WINS,ONE DAY IT WILL BE YOUR TURN!!!

THE ONLY bobcat HOPING FOR A QUALITY TAG BEFORE THEY TURN IT INTO A QUANTITY(JUNK) HUNT!!!

I drew Manti archery elk this year and am looking for a bull 330 plus. I will probably settle for a bull 310 plus the last couple of days. There are some huge bulls on these units so who knows?! The biggest obsticle is all the general season bowhunters for deer and elk. They get chased around pretty good but I am excited as heck! Hopefully I can post a few pictures of one when I get it down! Have a great day!

I'd shoot a 370 and nothing smaller because I saw 3 of 'em on a regular basis last year. As far as I know they're still alive too. I did see a nice 5x5 (362 and change) that was taken, and a nice 37something bull too. Right off a road!
